Accidental downshift @2 high a speed, clutch grinding noise now?
#26
Didn't your transmission synchros let you know that you were totally screwing up? I heard an old story about a stupid shift sending an RX-7 into a tail-spin by mistakenly down shifting at high speed. My tranny won't let me do stupid sh@$ without a complaint - I would figure you screwed up more than your clutch or pressure plate. would it help to add a personal insult? Drain your tranny lube & check for metal shavings.... Anyone want to calculate how high the drive train had to revv up to at 120 mph in 3rd gear?!? I'm not sure it's possible. Are U just trying to get attention?

4 options based on replies given:
1. Inspect it, proceed to option 2, 3 or 4 accordingly.
2. Use it and hope for the best. Free at least for now, but a good chance of being stranded, being forced to do option 3 or 4 anyway and going w/o a ride at an inconvenient time. Plus a $100-$150 tow if you don't have coverage or AAA.
3. Fix it yourself for $100-$300 or pay $500-$600 to get it fixed. But little/no risk involved.
4. Find alternate transportation for 2 months. Rent/borrow/public/mooch/etc. Also no risk, but possibly more costly or troublesome.
And low mileage does not necessarily mean reliable. There are links to buyer's guides in the forum FAQ.

i was paying attention but i guess i got complacent with my shifts. i have a worn shifter bushing.
the road speed is absolutely impertinent, the car was putting out its 120mph equivalent. correct me if im wrong but dont most of us have the 4:10's?

you probably fucked your throwout bearing, and chewed the hell outt your fingers on your pressure plate...
that'd be why its so hard to get it in gear and theres a scraping sound when your goin to engage the clutch, either way new clutch time, you could drive her till she dies but it might end up takin your tranny with it
