Accelerated warm-up (cold start) malfunctioning?
Normally when I start my car (86' N/A, stock) when it's cold it rev's up to 3k for a second, then drops to 1500.. and then eventually goes down to a normal idle as the car warms up.. Now thats all fine and dandy, but what would cause the idle to stick at 3k rpm? The other morning I started it, and yeah.. it stuck at 3k rpm idle.. I then tapped the gas, and it dropped back down to 1500..
I'm not extremely familiar with the mechanical aspect of the cold-start, but what would cause this? And how would I go about investigating/fixing the problem? - This has happened to me twice now, in the past 2 days when leaving in the morning.
The block is beginning to slightly ooze coolant, im presuming my coolant seals are on their way out... Would that have anything to do with it? And no, there has never been any over heating issues with this car at any time.
Thanks in advance,

This happens to me and apparently a lot of people.
I can't remember what causes it, just that its common and not really anything to worry about. If you move the shifter into gear the idle will drop down without having to press the throttle. You might try searching i remember reading about this a while ago.

Here are some things that affect it. Not sure exactly what yours is caused by.
1. The sensor on the bottom of the radiator drivers side.
2. The Thermo Wax Pellet, this is on the Throttle Body. This holds your idle at the 1500 mark until the wax melts and the idle begins to drop to normal.
3. There is also a sensor on the back of the WaterPump housing. Forget what that does.
4. THe bac valve.
Check those per the FSM, and see if they are in spec.
There are more, I just can not remember right now.
