We tried to fill the airconditiong system last summer, worked well for a short while, I noticed coolant bubbles coming from behind the compressor pulley. Is a rebuild possible, or where can I obtain a new compressor? Surely those compressors were not just for the RX7s? Any help gratefully received.

Unfortunately, information regarding the FC's air conditioning system(s) is quite sparse and often conflicting with other reports. In regard to the fittings, I have read that they are SAE, Metric, AN, UNF and NPT. Therefore, my conclusion is that none of the above is correct.
I've also read some accounts of the "A/C paper binder catalogs" that dealers have just for A/C parts. However, I've never actually seen one myself and information between the Parts Catalog and the North American EPC isn't consistent either despite the Japanese EPC being accurate to the letter. One thing I heard was that it was just a 70s/80s Japanese car thing, but they apparently did it with the RX-8 too
. So I emailed Mazdatrix about it and the response I received was basically "A/C = SOL".
Is the compressor in your car a NipponDenso or Sanden one? S4 Sandens have one m6x1.0 bolt to secure both the suction and discharge hoses vertically on the upper rear part of the compressor in a "pad". NipponDenso have separate rear-facing hose fittings, similar to the appearance of AN fittings.
Sanden compressors can be rebuilt but I am not sure how involved the process is. Ours are the SD-708 series, and the service guide can be found here: http://www.sanden.com/originals/imag...uide_Rev.2.pdf
There are commercially rebuilt ones available from Four Seasons, but the quality is apparently poor according to several sources reporting Compressor Black Death with them. You may wish to contact a specialty A/C shop about rebuilding your compressor. Vintage Air - Inventors of Performance Air Conditioning - www.vintageair.com would be a good starting place.

Well, I want to have mine rebuilt ideally. My mechanic buddy found Four Season and they want $500.00, here someone is saying they are rebuilt but not that good.
I don't see the point of putting a 25 year old compressor off a wreck into another 25 year old car.
Thanks Akagis, I'll check that link.
I got royally screwed by PayPal and ebay 4 years ago and will not deal with the bastards ever again
