abs?
ok this is probably a complete noob question
and im probably being a retard for asking
but looking at everyones engine bay shots
how come almost nobody else has the mechanical block
that i have in my engine bay on the passenger side near the firewall
and im guessin its my abs because it says ABS on it...
so do most people not have abs
or do they remove it
or very possible i am a noob and it is not even abs
if not what is it
if nobody knows what im talkin about then i can post a pic tmr

You're not a noob for asking. Yes it's the ABS pump/modulator assembly. Yes, some people remove it, and it's not common to begin with. ABS has pro's and con's, and opinions on it vary as you've seen from the previous posts. Add to that the fact that these are about 20 year old systems by now.
If you know how to threshold brake, and are good at avoiding lock-up, you'll be in the group that says scrap it. If you want another measure of safety, where you can slam on the brakes in the rain and not worry about locking up and focus on steering, then you'll be part of the keep it group. ABS actually produces longer braking distances under certain circumstances. You can look into this yourself as a lot more info is out there on this.
