This is not really a 'What to look for' site, but has fantastic information about common problems, mods etc. Definately worth looking at. I'm sure Ted would agree.

i printed taht out and im gonna use it as a basis when lookin at this car tomorrow. I figured the best thing to do is simply drive it and see how she behaves. I own an N/A and unfortunatly i dont know much about the TII and how it should behave so right now im doing all the research i can to get myself educated for tomorrow
Its an 87 TII 104k on engine, upgrades has reciepts, s5 turbo, tranny is in good condition, new clutch, paint good very little rust, only reporteds problem by owner is bad idle. The dudes asking 4 grand but i already know theres no way im gonna pay that or at least there must be a good reason for it ie; really good condition

hey man, make sure you put the car in 3rd and hit full boost to see if anything funny happens. also, when you come back down to idle after boosting a few times, come to a stop and watch for smoke to come out the exhaust. if smoke comes out while at idle (after boosting) it means the turbo is blown. pay close attention to how the car idles. chances are that it will hold a solid idle since you say the car is in really good condition or whatever, but if you have any concerns with the idle of the car, call the guy out on it and make sure you dont let him BS you. other than that, drive with the windows down and the sunroof open and see if you smell any exhaust gasses or any fuel. getting teary eyes will be a result. if any of those things happen, there is an exhaust leak which can be annoying, especially annoying if its up by the manifold/turbo area... hope that helps.

if the guy is cool enough and you have the time, check the turbo compressor (and turbine if you want) wheel to see if it has any play. it should move minimally in and out, but not from side to side. always remember the rust on the outside may only be a fraction of the amount of rust there actually is. basically with buying any car, make sure it's mechanically sound before putting down any cash and be absolutely sure it's a strong car. check the condition of the mods, the guy's knowledge of the car and check out his personality. if he's a little wacko, it probably got beat on pretty bad. most of the stuff should be covered in aaron's site, with a few exceptions involving the turbo setup. good luck and hope it's a strong car, it's nice to see these cars falling into the right hands and getting taken care of.
