944 vs fc3s
Okay i just moved to austin Tx about a month ago. I searched the entire area for another FC but to no avail. So i gave a Porsche 944 a try. I got a pretty good deal on it and considering that it is a 86 w/ 82k miles i thought what the hell.
Anyways i am very satisfied with the car but man i am overwhelmed with how the characteristics of the 2 cars are the same. I will say that the Porsches are constructed a bit better, but they basically drive the same.
Just wanted to know what you guys thought and if there was anyone out there who has taken this path. Keep in mind that i have owned 18 rx-7's of all gens so i am no newb.
I am not giving up on 7's but just tryong something new. So far so good.

The FC was made to compete against the 924/944. So I would imagine that it was intended to have similar drive characteristics.

Walken long time no see, its been about 2 yrs since i was last on the forum. Ive been going through some drama myself, divorce etc. Anyways i got rid of the Shinka rx-8, it was sad but since i have been to Austin i have seen about 100 rx-8's so i would much rather drive something that is more rare. Good to hear from you. I also sold my T2 about 2 yrs ago to aq kid in Orlando, and he blew it up about 3 mos later, heartbreaking.

We had an '87 Porsche 944 in the family some time ago. That was back before I bought my '90 Turbo II. That was about 7 years before I bought the RX-7, so it's hard to say exactly how the 944 handled, considering that I was learning to drive at that time. From the very little I drove it, and the times that I rode in it, it was very impressive. I would love to get my hands on like a black on black '89 944 Turbo someday.

if your lucky enough to find a later year 944 turbo for less than 10k. buy it! the value on them are only going up. and with slight bolt ons, (intake, exhaust, FPR, chip) they make true 350hp.
but the parts are much more exspensive. and NA's are basically usless. with rx7's, you can make power for cheap with NA or turbo...

My bud has a 944, and i've gotta say that i really like those cars.
the styling is beauitful, and even the stock 2.5 I4 is capable of lots of power when turbocharged.
if you used the twin cam 3.0 that comes in the S2, then you can make even more power, seeing as the regular 2.5s are single cam. A stroker kit will bump that up to 3.4 liters.. from an inline 4!
but no 944 compairs to this one i found on the internet the other day.. just in case you ever wondered what a big block chevy with a 114mm turbo looks like in a 944:

944's are nice, but I chose RX-7 for better value. My dad owned a number of 944's and 924's and I quickly learned how much of a pain in the *** they are to work on. It's like my Audi; the engine is shoe-horned in there. Timing belt has to be changed every 30k and the later models have non-replaceable ball-joints so you have to buy the whole a-arm, of which seem to wear out really fast in my experience. There's a reason you don't see as many any more since people don't want to pay to maintain them. An FC is an easier DIY car to work on than a 944. Now whether or not the 944 turbo's will get classic status is debatable since they were produced in high numbers... maybe cup version, but you will have to pay way too much...
Still, it's a cool car. And if you're happy, that's good.
