? 91 motor in 88 ?

I have a 88 RX7 GXL with a blown motor.
I might go purchase a rearended 91 RX7 GXL and i was wonderin if the motor mounts are the same and everything. I'm just gonna put the 91 motor tranny in the 88 shell. If thats possible bolt in without any changin. Any advice much appreciated.

you can't use the 91 electronics with an 88 without doing some major splicing into the wiring harness. although you can just take the bare shortblock from the 91 and use all manifolds and eletronics, etc from the 88 and make it work. the different compression #s between the 88 and 91 shouldnt really matter. it will work if you do it like that. but you will need to use the 91 flywheel with the 91 motor because if you use the 88 flywheel with the 91 motor without changing the front counterweight it will throw the engine out of balance and cause premature bearing failure and/or bad vibration.
