'91 air conditioner and wheel questions
The air conditioner in my 91 coupe does not work, and I am not sure why. The compressor does not come on when the A/C button is depressed. It is out of freon, so I figure there is a pressure switch that prevents the compressor from coming on when dry to prevent damage. Is this the case?
Also, how can I tell if my logicon is fully fuctional? The heater works quite well as well as all the other buttons save the A/C.
What the hell are the wheels made out of and why do they look so shitty. I have 5 spoke wheels that are kinda rounded, and they have a rough texture to them. I would like to try the aircraft stripper/polish method, but I don't know exactly what I am dealing with.

Yes, there is a pressure switch to prevent the compressor from engaging when system is low. Need to find leak. If you can't/don't know about the A/C sytem, better take it somewhere. Do a search and you'll find many conversations on leaks, conversions. Now is a good time to change to the R134a refrigerant. I don't think it works as well as R12, but you'll find it less expensive.

Obvious question first. Is the fan switched on? The A/C won't run without it. Don't be offended, sometimes people just forget. ![Wink](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
You can jumper the pressure switch to check if low pressure is the problem. Unplug the connector, put a jumper wire across its terminals and with the ignition on (engine not running) turn on the fan and the A/C. If the compressor's clutch clicks, then you're out of gas. Take it to an auto A/C specialist to be recharged.
It's illegal you refill it with R12, so it'll need to be converted to R124a. It's not quite as effective as R12, but you don't really have a choice. Because R134a isn't compatible with the mineral oil in the compressor the conversion requires a flush of the lines, replacement of the drier/receiver and new synthetic compressor oil, plus the new gas.
All FC wheels are aluminium. The rough finish is probably just the original texture, but it can get pretty grubby and hard to clean. There are aluminuim restoring products out there that might clean them up.
