90 vert w/Tii swap - It's ALIVE!

We started up the 90 Tii vert on the first try!

The oil pressure is off the charts (big contrast from where it was a couple of days ago at zero and it the gauge needle moves like it has a damper! I've done my searching so we're swapping the n/a's oil pressure sender and see what that does.

I may have f'd up the gauge when testing the oil pressure after I primed the oil pump and was testing to see if I got any pressure. I noticed afterwards that I hadn't installed the little black capacitor thing near the oil filter.

If swapping senders doesn't work we'll go grab one of the Advanced Auto gauges someone mentioned in a thread and try that.

It does idle but it pulses between 500 and 2000 at a regular interval. I'll research that one later.

Congrats. My vert will be getting converted soon too, so I can imagine how nice it is to be finished.

The surging idle can be caused by vac leaks or bad/misadjusted TPS.

Thanks.

Finished? Ha! This is an RX7, you're never "finished"!

But we still have more to do to go on the road. This morn we'll install the RX7.com cat-forward and the Corksport cat-back. That should stop the leaking. The blood leaking out of our ears that is!

Then we have to find the air leak. The idle bounces from 500 to 1200 in a nice rhythm. I'm guessing it is in the air intake system as we did a complete rebuild with sealant on all new gaskets and new silicon vacuum tubes. And obviously the air filter to turbo intake system is all used. But if you give it a bit of gas it revs really nice.

Then we have to do the conversion on the na wiring harness. I have the Tii AFM, air pressure sensor, N370 ECU all ready to go. Working in software and having years in circle track racing I learned a long time ago to make one change at a time. So now that we know the engine works we can get the air leak fixed and then we'll do the emissions harness fixes (I have questions on that I'll post later).

And then in the coming weeks we have to replace the suspension bushings (the front ones look like black spaghetti), install the SS brake lines and it needs a new convertible top too. It's degraded badly in the last two years. And of course in the back of my mind I'm thinking if we've got the suspension and brakes all apart I might as well install new shocks and 1" lower springs... It's like a disease!

Oh, I know that the project never really ends. Just look at my title for more on that. I stopped trying to keep track of all the money I've put into my 2 cars years ago. I don't think it's possible to own an RX7 and not feel the urge to upgrade something else. So, it's nice for you to be done...with this stage of the never ending project.
