Do what the birds do! Migrate south ... I lived in South dakota for 3 years.. hated it, so i know what your talking about.
Make sure your cold start assist system is working right, check the FSM. Also plug the car in ... if it has such a thing.

Get a tune up, fix your various engine problems.
Car should start fine in the cold. I have NEVER needed a block heater, nor had a problem starting any of my RX-7s in the coldness of Canadian winters.

It isn't that you need a block or oil heater. It just helps and is less wear and tear on the engine, battery, and starter.
When it is 9F out there again pull your dip stick out and see how thick that oil is. Then ask you self how well that stuff is going to run around your engine at that viscocity.
Just get a magnetic oil pan heater. They even make battery blankets that heat up the battery.
Alasken bush pilots have been know to drain the oil out of their aircraft before they go to sleep. Pour itt into a pot and keep it hot over the fire that night then pour it back in the plane in the morning![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
