89 vert auto tranny probs missing 2nd gear

when i drive my auto it seems to be missing 2nd gear alot. i narrowed it down by driving it in 2 with the hold enabled and also in 1 with the hold enabled and disabled. it seems that when in 1 with hold disabled it will go to shift into 2nd gear but will not hit the gear unlesws i allow rpms to go down..then it goes into 2nd gear but will eventually slip out sometimes..which basically results in highrevs with zero acceleration. while skipping the gear and revvfing without accel it will only shift into 2nd if i alow the rpms to go down. while its skipping the gear i can press the gas and it will only rev up and down with no catching of the gear i can keep pressing the gas and revving all day with no catch..just vrooooom...vrooomunless i let rpms go down to idle then 2nd gear catches.

anyone know the auto tranny reset where you disconnect the neg battery for so long then reconnect and drive in a certain gear at a certain speed and the n slam on the brakes? this is a reset that a buddy of mine told me about but i forgot the exact procedure he told me. he got this reset from his buddy who owns an rx7 specific shop. i just cant remember the exact steps to follow.

this sounds to me like the tranny is going anyone have this same problem or know of a similar situation?

sounds like a tranny rebuild soon to me. When was the last time you changed the fluid, and did you use the correct ATF???

Might try cleaning the filter and changing the fluid, but I would bet even money that the tranny is going.

And the Auto tranny ECU is a non-volitile memory. Just disconnecting the battery and turning on the lights, or pressing brake while battery is disconnected will reset the 'puters (all the 'puters even the engine one).

It's not missing. I saw it on the roadside today.
