89 N/a Is it worth it

I found an 89 probably gxl with 141,000 miles that i could probably get for a couple hudred (under 500 im guessin) the only problem is that it has low compression aorund about 52 lbs on the #2 cylinder i know im more than likely going to have to rebuild it cuz it doenst start or anything. I actually really want another rx-7 (previously had an 86 gxl which i stupidly sold) coud this be the way to go? I know a guy who works on them kinda just wonderin on rebuild cost and everything. I own a miata Ha ha yes i know is this worht it or is the miata enogh zoom zoom for me lol

I dunno, I love my 86 GXL and my 91 Miata for different reasons You're definatly in for a rebuild though, so its time to start pricing, and deciding whether you'd want to do it yourself or send it out. Just search around for different rebuild places/prices, should be easy to find.

good luck with whatever you choose.

HE says everything else is good he actually bought it in worse condition that it is in now but after forum surfing for a couple of months and fixing things he says hes on the last problem but its to expensive for him. Of course im going to check it out i knwo a lilttle about what to look for He said a crate enigne cheap is like 2100 (probaly more but im game for a rebuild might as well learn soemthin i didnt the first time around) i thinkin i could probaly get it done work and everything for around 1200 or less by some friends (hes got pretty much a field full of Rx-7's he works on and sells) but that jsut guessing i have no i dea about parts and pricing cuz my 86 was a bitch to find parts for (or maybe i just suck lol) buteither way im tryin to find out today

i paid 1000 for my 87 base (4 lug rims), and i had to get it rebuilt and had to replace the main wiring harness, rear wiring harness (chassis) to fix the problems it had wrong with it. Im still having problems right nowto work out , i finally got it started about a week ago with a rebuilt engine from rotaryresurrection. For 500 bucks you cant go wrong , my car has 146,000 on the chassis

Unhappy

well i think im going to buy it just finished talkin to my buddy and if all else fails (he doesnt want to rebuild an engine thats not his cuz hes never done it before and i guess doesnt want on his conscience lol) hes got 2 good engines hes willing to part with for round abouts 500 for one and probably a lil more or less for the other. (although shucky darn i was hopin to help a rebuild ) either way tho if i buy an engine it will be cheaper than a rebuild so i think both ways i come out the winner i'd rather just have the engine the car came with dont need anymore problems lol)

I say get the Atkins video, a Haynes and full service manual. Have you both remove the engine and you give it a shot at the rebuild. Plus you can always use the RX7forum for question. People are always willing to help.

Plus with those engines they may have sat for a while and could possibly be fucked. You could use one for parts and the such. If you rebuild it yourself you'd learn alot about the car and appeciate it alot more. But I'm not one to tell anyone what to do, its up to you bud. Good luck!
