I assume you are wanting to to hook up a Series 5 computer to your 88 car? I am 99.99% sure it won't work. Ted or Mark, wanna add to this?

EDIT: I beleive you will need to put resistors inline with the injectors b/c they are low impedence, while the ECU needs high impedence. Also, the 88 wiring harness won't plug in to a 89+ ECU. Why you wanna do this??

Well I got a 89-91 intake manifold with a computer, and everything to make it work but a wiring harness. I was wondering if I could use my 88 wiring harness some how with the 89-91 computer, but I guess I can't. So I guess I will use the 88 computer and wiring harness with the newer intake manifold.

That sould be good for like 5-8 horses. Port the manifold while you have it off the car. Just use the gasket as a template, and port the holes with a dremel.

Should work on anything built after 6/87 as far as injectors go.

*edit
Remember you would want to use the later engine harness as well since you will have several differences.
**end edit

Don't bother putting the computer on, it's not worth it since there won't really be any power gains, and it's way too much work for nothing!!
Some of the sensors are different (like the AFM), and the wiring is different..

ALL ECU's require a high impedence injector circuit... the injectors from 86-87 are low impedence, so they use a simple resistor block to up the impedence.

As for the manifold.... sure- you can put the VDI manifold on...but unless you have some way to control the VDI- you won't gain much (if any) power.. you will actually loose either high end, or low end, depending what position you have the VDI in.
If you get an RPM activated switch, and a solenoid, you can hook the VDI up, using the air pump for the pressure needed to switch the VDI. (At 5200 rpms)
THEN it would be good for noticable HP.

Yeah that is how I had my 6-ports opening on my old motor. So I should be able to do it again.

On the 89-91 did the 6-ports open before the VDI? If so at what RPM? Thanks

6 ports open the same... start at around 3000 and are fully open by 3800.
I'm guessing you asked because it would be easier to use just the one switch.. and do them both at the same time...
Well, your could, but it would suck. (technical)
You'd loose a lot of power between 3800-5200.
The VDI would be opening WAY to early at 3800...
If your RPM activated switch is adjustable, maybe you could find a happy medium, maybe 4400 or somethig- to open both, but that would be the worst of both worlds....

Yeah I was just wondering if they did it different with the newer cars. I could run two switchs and have them come on at different times.

Do you think the airpump puts out enough pressure to open both at different times?

Thanks for all your help.
