88 rx7 turbo....any tips?
hey guys im finally moving from 1st gen to 2nd gen i think.. i wasn't sure if this was a smart buy maybe you guys can steer me clear and tell me what to look for when i go check it out... http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/1645713382.html
theirs the car... he says its not a turbo 2. its a turbo kit installed.. he doesn't even know how much boost its pushing because the apexi controller was stolen from the car??? he says it runs good and boosts good too... i am very interested but not to clear on turbo rotaries and what goes wrong commonly besides apex seals... i figured id check the compression as best as i can with the conventional piston meter.
all tips and suggestions will be appreciated as i would be selling my daily driver for this.. thx

unless you found a really good rx7 in good shape, I wouldn't sell off my daily for it.
It costs a good deal of money for parts for these cars so be careful. I would say best advice is to try and find someone with good rotary experience to go with you to look at the car. That may be hard, but I would say that is the best course of action.

+1 on the basket case
That car may make a nice project car, but it doesn't look like daily driver material. I would wait until you find a car that wasn't beat to hell and back on the drag strip.

I wouldn't trust this car, it could be made with a bunch of cheap ebay parts. You don't want a car like that, it'd be like getting an old hyundai or kia...quality wise that is.
your best bet is to order a 13bt swap and put it in your first gen, I kinda wish I would have done that, but then again there are many things about the fc I like, like independent rear suspension which I think would be difficult to implement on the fb (but it has been done).

well rested,buffet o food
I would ask for more pictures of the body, as well. Thing looks full of bondo.
Best thing you can do is drive it and check compression when car is cool.
When you show up with your piston gauge make sure car has been sitting and not started within the past few-5 hours.....that will give you a more accurate reading.
3000 turns into 2200 real quick walking around the car pointing out the shitty things.
If all is well, you may get a decent deal.
If it was me, i would buy an 88 se, and swap in a "jspec" turboII engine. You could come out around the same price without extensive bodywork.
