88 conv ecu vs 86 ecu n/a
I have a 88 conv with an 86 ecu. What would be the variances between the two years that would be engine control and so on. The wiring harness to the ecu has two wire that are discinnected and then 2 that replace the disconnected ones that goes to a relay (4 wire relay) from the relay two go to the ecu area one goes to ground and one goes to a green connector by the leading coils. Could there be a reason or just some one not sure of what they were doing

The 88 Convertible ECU was originally a turbo-style ECU. This can be checked/verified by a mod or something, but I'm pretty sure that the Conv. ECUs were identical to turbo ECUs.
However, more important than that. What number is on the ECU? Should be N and three digits, this will help us tell you what's going on.

I don't have the ecu in front of me but i believe its n326. I bought the car with this ecu and found out after the fact that the ecu belongs to the 86 coupe n/a. Mainly what i need if possible to find out what each wire goes to, i have seen a diagram someone made either here or another web site that pretty much said everything. I just do not understand why they would disconnect two wires from the ecu then reconnect 2 seperate wires that go to a relay it was really a sloppy job too. And by the way what could cause a wire to fry(melt the coating) other than the wire grounding? Any help is greatly appreciated

Those are for a 86-88. Tell you what, those were copied out of a 87fsm and I use them on my 86/87 cars. I am almost 110percent sure the 88 are exactly the same....but here's what you do. Go to the top of this forum where it mentions FAQ. Then go down that list til you see where you can access a online fsm. Look in the fuel section of the 88 manual/fsm. You'll find the same chart as is in the supplied links above. Check those pinouts to the ones I posted above.
