Exclamation 87 TII Will NOT go past 60mph!

I think my TPS is shot, I checked it using the method found on reted's site....it read 0hms with the irratic 7.5,10, and even 20.00 readings when I put WOT.

I just got 9mpg and this is the 60mph part! In 1st car bogs like crazy until you hit 7k then it flies for the split second, then you hit 2nd gear and it bogs like crazy until 6.25K and flies until the shift, in 3rd gear it is bogging, 4th boggs and can not go over 65, and in 5th the car acts like it is going to die! Will not even go over 60mph!

I have an exhaust leak through one crunchy gasket and found all the vac leaks and replaced alot of hoses.

I think I did the TPS right (motor was hot) Turned it all off and checked the plug according to http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TPS/tps.html with the ohm signal selected. Also has a open/short feature and it would read shrt.

Would a falty TPS cause all of this bizznastyness, an EXTREME loss of power, run pig rich, and make me pee my pants when needing to cross the highway because the car will barely make it with any speed?!

Thanks guys!

Start checking stuff. Timing, fuel pressure/voltage, spark voltage, grounds, ect.

Fuel pressure, voltage, spark, and grounds are all good. All have been changed, replace, or re-worked. Have not checked the timing, do not have a timinglight....but Im sure there is another way. Gotta check in the FSM. Since the TPS did not read at all, im figuring that has to be part if not all of the problem.

Im also suspect of the AFM.... All I know is that this thing runs freakin pig rich and slooooow Somewhat had the problem before...but not even close to what it is now.

I would say a fuel filter, fuel pump or bad injectors..... could be timing or even water in your gas tank

I'll suggest the factory service bulletin that had a fix for similar problems. It added a gnd to the boost/pressure sensor for early cars. It's where you solder or in some like manner add a wire to the gnd wire at the sensors plug. The brown wire with a black stripe. It might be a pure black wire instead. Put the other end of this new wire on the engine. They suggested one of the bolts that hold the water filler neck in place, IF you have a metal one and not the plastic one.

It can't hurt a thing. It does not work on a number of cars but maybe it will on yours. Your only out a hours time and it beats sitting around.

All have been recently replaced, and there isnt any water in the tank...had it almost on empty while it was out for a while and filled it with new gas before I got it driving again.

I'll check the boost grounding....I got one suggestion on maybe I was not setting my DMM right...How do I set it to resistance? I turned it to the ohm sign and let it run auto, then I also pressed this range button...still got nothing but three irradic readings. (7.5,10,and 20 ohms)

I dont think that the TPS would have that drastic of an effect on the running of the engine. You might want to check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail

I sent my injectors off to be cleaned and recently re-installed them. How do I check the pressure? The fuel pump is new along with a fuel pump filter and fuel pump re-wire.

Im going to drive my car around tomorrow with my tps unplugged, if it does not make a difference, then should I feel confident in saying that it could be the cause of one of the issues??

After that, I will drive with the boost sensor unplugged. Its just when I tested my TPS I got 0.0 reading...I dont know if I was doing something wrong..

Checked the TPS, does not work at all. Ran exactly the same without one and also checked it with a check light.

QUESTION: Will my TPS from my 85 GSL-SE work in my 87TII?? All wires resemble the same and is the same size. Thanks.

Conformation: Bad TPS.

Good news: Found out that it was my TPS.

Bad news: Remembered that my GSL-SE had some idle fluctuations before the motor was taken out....bad TPS.

Good news: Buying a new TPS from a board member

Bad news: Car is still going fairly slow....think that there is a major drop in boost pressure

Good news: New 3in exhaust, Boost controller, and boost gauge should fix the slow problem
