First: When I start the car I do not touch the gas and it fires right up. Goes to about 3,000 RPM for a few seconds then drops to 1,500 RPM. I let it run for 30 to 60 seconds then off I go. Every once in a while it floods. When I have time (like when I am not leaving for the 75 mile drive to work at 5:00 a.m. [then I take the '83 RX7]) I pull the plugs, detach the coil/igniter wires, detach the gas pump connector, turn it over for 10 seconds 3 or 4 times to clear the excess gas and put everything back in place with a new set of plugs included. Sometimes it will fire up but at other times it just drains the battery to the point I have to recharge it before trying again. I have had to take it to the corner garage twice to get it going because it just won't go for me.
Secondly: Recently it has a new trick to it. It turns over but will not start. No smell of gas, no power to the gas pump. I tried each of 3 days to get it running but no way. Off to the garage it gets towed. When I called him the next day he tells me he has started it 5 or six times through the day with no problem.
I have put around 35,000 miles on this car in the last year and replaced the plugs twice and put in a new air filter.
Any suggestions on this technique and why it floods in the 1st place and why the pump would be intermittant would be greatly appreciated.
D.G.
