(87 gxl fc s4) do i need the split air pipe

Hey guys,
i have a 87 gxl. I just need to know if the split air pipe is required, to run properly. If so then i know ill just keep it on, but if its not then, what excactly do i need to do to remove it without making another issue, other than removing the pipe itself and gapping the connection on the cat. Any responce is greatly appreciated

The pressure in the split air pipe is what opens your aux. ports, so no, don't remove it. Something you might want to do is check to see if they're working properly, since they're responsible for about 25 hp. http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/6porttest.htm

If your ACV is blocked off, then you have no use for the split air pipe. On my S4 I simply put a cap on the lower intake manifold bung, back of the engine, then cut off the metal pipe past the nipple that leads to the auxiliary ports and welded it shut.
