'86 Turbo 2 - Worth Buying?
Hey guys,
I've found a turbo II Series 4, 5 speed manual, owned by a chick who's gone on a holiday to England and has now decided to stay, so needs the cash. The car has an assload of receipts, is on it's second engine and has 25,000 k's on the engine. I took it for a drive and naturally redlined the crap out of it the entire time :P turbo seems good, compression is good, the only problem I had with it mechanically, was that it seems to idle really poorly, maybe I need to redo compression test, but I dunno. When it was started from cold start, it did NOT want to stay started, it stalled at first and then when restarted, it warmed up ok, but the idle is really funny, seems to jump between 700rpm-1000 all the time, even when running as normal and driving (eg. stopped at lights etc.) is this normal? Or am I looking at a dodgy engine? There was no smoke while running etc. but a bit on warmup after first starting, which I know is normal. The alternator belt needs replacing but other than that it should be fine? Help! :/

If the compression is good, price is good, and there's no smoke then go for it. That's probably caused by a minor vacuum leak or a bad/misadjusted TPS. Been in so many 7s with that, that it just seems normal now.

Sounds good, I am definitely gonna haggle, no question there :P the interior is in suprisingly good nick, and besides the few bad bits on the body, it looks good, no rust, sunroof works, they've taken care of it and gotten switches and stuff replaced when neccesary. I'll definitely ask the mechanic what he can see about the idle speed.
