79 S wheel in an 88 GXL?

Hey guys, will a 1979 SA S model two spoke steering wheel fit in place of an 88 GXL's three spoke wheel? I had a 1980 S and I miss the thin leather wheel, my new (to me) 88's plastic three spoke just feels too aritficial to me and I want to give it a more solid feel. Will it work? Have any of you tried it? Thanks!

It may be too thick in the center. I have an 88 wheel on my 85, and the 88 wheel is alot thinner, to the point where it doesn't touch the turn signal canceler. But the splines were the same.
