wouldn't work out too well, it would be like adding an extra gear between 3rd and 4th

alex6969 is talking about the rx-8 one
its a useless swap as he stated

Greddy and a few other JDM countries make them but not cheap 6-12k

the FAQ only relates to the rx-8 tranny not to aftermarket ones.

There are far more useless mods that get done by most of the members of this forum on a daily basis than swapping to a 6 speed tranny. I wouldn't consider that useless.

why would that be useless?, the 6 speed gives better gearing than a 5 speed which would lessen the rpm drops when shifting.

yes but it all depends on what the gearing is

Ever think they geared the Rx7 the way they did on purpose? Ever think that maybe their engineering was better suited for the car than a transmission from another car?

Just a thought...

There's an archived topic that covers a swap with the Miata 6 speed.

I have a sixspeed in my FC... but its attached to a 5.7L powerplant

you could get the RX8 trans to work,
but if you want better acceleration from shorter gearing you can get a mazdaspeed gear set
or even just changing the rear end gear from the stock 4.1 to something shorter (numerically higher) like closer to 5.0 would make your car FREAKIN RIP!!!!!!

Are you implying that GReddy makes an aftermarket 6-speed transmission for the FC?

I think GReddy only makes a 6 speed for the FD. Probably because they know that no FC owner is gonna drop money on a transmission that costs more than their car!

actually the s15 6 speed transmission center section is the same as the rx8. Its alot cheaper than the rx8 6 speed. All you need is a bell housing from the rx8 ( $600 ) and the tail shaft ( $125 ). S15 transmissions are about $800- $1500.
Thanks Robert

I've also heard that S15 6-speed also breaks a LOT.

If we're talking about an NA here, there's been lots of good posts from before.
Do a search.

If we're talking turbo here, don't even bring up the RX-8 trans, cause it's going to explode in a week.

Best engineering on a trans goes to:

http://www.xtremerotaries.com/main2/guru/gearbox.htm

That is only $8900 australian dollars so like $14.85 USD

Those links will take you to race applications for the transmissions. Dog boxes are great for racing but I hardly believe they would make a nice streetable car. I'd stick with the stock tranny and change out the ring and pinion to a 4.8 like someone said earlier.

I have an s2000 trans in my car; It lines up with the oem shifter hole an everything. The problem is theres an s2000 engine in my car too. But, if you could somehow mount a rotary to it and you would be set!
