6 ports....stuck opened?

This thread confused me a lot...Just didn't make sense. I will try to clear up.
S4: The ports are open when the rods are INSIDE (retracted) the actuator.
35: The ports are open when the rods are OUTSIDE (extended) from the actuator.
Do not wire open your ports. Fix the problem that is preventing them from working properly. Usually it's just dirt buildup on the actuators themselves, or the sleeves inside the intake.
S4: The ports are open when the rods are INSIDE (retracted) the actuator.

But Aaron, can you explain why the back pressure opened ones have a different position than the air pump ones? Also, I still say I enjoy the non-functioning ports more. But I really don't want to start a debate, I was merely giving him my personal opnion....so please don't flame me as you do 99.99% of the time. Thanks.

The different actuators are constructed differently inside...Basically, eveything is in reverse..There is a diaphram that is moved by the air...The air port that moves the diaphram is on the bottom on S5 unites, and on the top in S4 units.

Cool. As I said, Hayne's manual (once again) only has the set up for S5 cars in it. Sorry for the confusion, man I know I caused a lot of it this time!!!!!

As previously stated, on S4 engines the aux. ports are closed when the actuator arm is extended. So if you took the actuator arm OFF the car, the arm would still be extended. The arm retracts from VACUUM created by backpressure in the exhaust.
On S5 engines the arm is RETRACTED when at rest(or when aux. ports are closed). The actuator is arm is EXTENDED to open the ports, and air PRESSURE(not vacuum)is used to extend the arm. The air pressure is supplied from the airpump. At 3800 rpm's the aux. port solenoid activates allowing air to bypass it and goes to the Air control valve where it is then routed to the actuators.

I'm gonna wire them open.....cheaper than finding used S4 ones around here....there's 1 rx7 in a junk yard and I have most of it at home hehe

I beg to differ with Speedracer. On the S4 cars the actuator is operated by pressure from the exaust, not vacuum. Blow into the nipple for the actuators and the actuators retract. Suck on them all day and not a thing will happen. Both S4 and S5 are operated by pressure, just a different source of pressure.
