6 port turbo is alive!!

well i FINALYY started it today. the first time i started it it flooded. so i had to unflood it. that has never happened in n/a form. im running 550 primaries, 720 secondaries, stock s4 turbo, tmic converted to fmic, type s bov,fd fuel pump, turbo has a ported wastegate, i mocked up exhaust had it welded and we welded the damn thing wrong. so know that is the only thing holding it back. im also using the innovate wideband and a safcII for fuel control. i revved it a little when i first got it to run and it seemed to rev so much faster. of course ill only went to 2,000 or a little more. i was a little nervous since there is no exhaust and wideband is hooked up.

nice, how did you set it up? Portmatch a T2 LIM or used a turbo spacer? What did you do for the water line to the turbo?

He's using N/A intakes with a spacer (ugh), water is just from the waterpump to the rear iron more than likely

yes, i used the spacer, rookie style!! i wanted to port match the ts manifolds ( should have) but i bought all that stuff a while back and figured id just use it before i learned about the tII manifolds *shrug*, itll work, just a hack job! the water line comes off the waterpump and such, im a little nervous as to adjusting the safcII since i read so much about people blowing them up. i know i should be safe since i have 720's. wont it fall on its face since theres so much fuel set a zero?

Which stock ECU?
Turbo or NA?
NA stock ECU with those 550's will flood them everytime...

n/a. i had them prior to the build and had little stating problems buy it never flooded. i ran for like 2 weeks with 550's in n/a form. i did the rats nest removal and figured since the uim was off id throw the 550's in. itll start everytime now, just takes a couple extra cranks. ill use the tII 1.7 rtek later since in 3 or 4 days i need to winter store it. or whenever it gads bad outside.

Word...and i say get that n/a ecu out of there quick, i had an SAFC II to hold me over till my other fuel management system was ready, but i ran into so many problems tuning with that bastard n/a ecu in there. You have larger secondaries so that will help, otherwise the SAFC was maxed out on 550's with the n/a ecu and i was running an FD fuel pump on it also. I also found it amazing at how much the air temp sensor effected the n/a ecu's fuel control, it was unplugged and without thinking I plugged it in at the track...bad idea, so stupid of me not thinking about the effects it might have on the ecu. Ran into a 13.7 a/f going into boost *pop* Just learn from my mistake, take it easy with that ECU and be generous with your timing now, i knocked mine back about 7 degrees.

Not on my car.

I ran 4 x 550CC and never had a problem with flooding on the NA ECU.

It likely depends more on the condition of the engine.

thanks for the help. so your saying unplug the air temp sensor eh?? how much boost did you run? i cant believe this motor has a flooding problem! 46,000 origanal miles of unabused delight. im not worried about the fuel, i def. got that covered. maybe its a good thing its getting put away real soon! so if i use a rtek 1.7 with a tII maf and boost pressure sensor ill be ok? im looking for maybe 10-11 lbs of boost. maybe i should get a hybrid stage 1???

is that with or without using a a/f controller?

Leave the air sensor alone. I'd also wager your 550's are used and haven't been cleaned in a while. Regardless, what would you need a stage 1 for?

I'm kind of interested in what boost bcool was running to max the 550's on the SAFC, running with the stock turbo and a larger pump at 12psi I had very minimal corrections on the SAFC, no where near maxed.

my 550's are cleaned.

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/got-my-injectors-cleaned-467516/
i would like to run 10-11 lbs. if i had a stage 1 i could get the same power without running as much boost.

Yeah, i'm thinking something was fishy with the fuel system, maybe the fuel pressure for some reason was dropping, i bypassed the fuel filter for one run down the road to see if that changed anything (thought it may have be clogged). I had a good tune set at 5 psi @ 11.5:1 across the board with 7 degrees knocked back on the timing, but i did notice it hitting a 12:1 up around 7k. 5 psi is all i ever got to run, the Injectors, fuel pump, or fuel pressure regulator could have had a part in the matter, although i never found out which one it was. Correction was fairly tame on the SAFC up till around 5K then it just skyrocketed, so thats probrably where my fuel problems occured.

The reason i mentioned the air temp sensor is, i realized it was unpluged at the track, so when i did plug it in, it automaticly stoped defaulting to rich on account of the missing sensor and my corrections were then off, this lead to a poped motor. Even with the SAFC it would flood when starting cold (90+ psi all faces).

Hell I was around 11:1 at 5psi with no corrections throughout the entire band with just 4 550's on an n/a ecu.

Anyway, it varies, some cars will flood no matter what with 550s (either due to compression, cranking speed, plug condition, etc), others fire right up.

And the SAFC doesn't do anything for cranking.

thanks sonic! i need to go get my exhaust fixed now, lol. i guess ill level out my safc to. i wonder how rich it will be with 720's? GOTTA be rich as hell since you were around 11's with 550's.

Well, all cars are different, so be sure to keep an eye on it. With 720's i never added fuel, I was always pulling fuel away (even up to 14 psi, I was always at like 10.5:1). With 720's you shouldn't be adding fuel at all, but then again double check to make sure (who knows if there's some other issue that's making it run lean)

okay well, i got my exhaust on and it still leaks at manifold somewhere and underneath but i couldnt resist. WOW!! i had to add fuel for some reason above 5,500? strange when im runnin 720's. other than that i have some boost creep. it creeps to 7.

Eh thats nothing terrible, i stayed at close to 5 psi the whole time on a pretty open exhaust with a ported wastegate but it sounds like you're safe. How much correction are you running on top of the 720's right now?

Hrmmm something's up then, fuel pressure gauge would be nice for this situation.
