4.88 Getting prices, what do i need?
I'd like a 4.88 rear. I have considered a 4.3, but I don't think the cost / time of putting this in is worth the very slight gain. 4.88 would be a bit more difficult, but should significantly improve my 0-60 time. I mostly AutoX, and would like better acceleration.
How much would i see drop off my 0-60 by switching from a 4.1 to a 4.88? I don't care about top speed, i don't usually go more then 45-50 highway.
Any information? I don't want to go too much more then 4.88. I am expecting around $600-700? That seem correct? Oh, ring and pinion.....

There are no 4.88's for the FC's long pinion housing. What the racers do is to cut apart a stock FC pinion and the 4.88 and graft them together. Some of the FC specializing race shops can do this, but it won't be cheap. I've seen used complete diffs with 4.88 or 5.12 gears sell for ~$2.5k(they don't come up for sale very often though).
If you're not constrained by rules, I'd suggest using the Miata diff front section (will bolt up to the FC rear bit) along with a custom or modified driveshaft (longer) and make a custom front mount arrangement to avoid having to modify the pinion. I think that's a better way to go from an engineering standpoint and should be cheaper.
