4 to 5 lug swap
hey everyone, yes another question. This topic is for a friend heres what he was wondering: do you have to change the whole spindle or will the 5 lug hub will just slide over the 4 lug spindle.
Thanks.

The hubs match the spindles perfectly. However you will need to change the calipers(provided you go 4 pot fronts and heavy duty finned rears), the dust shields and the brake lines. I performed this swap myself and it was relatively straightforward, not much hassle unless you need to pry a hub out of the rotor, or form the back halfshafts. In those cases a large gear puller works wonders without damaging anything, though pull the rotors off while the hub is still attached to the car.

Correct. though if you keep your original single piston fronts and non heavy duty rears it all works the same, still need to just swap the hubs out and buy new pads and rotors....and quite possible new bearings if they appear to be needing a change.
But to be clear once more.
4lug->5lug with upgraded brakes system: requires teh new/used hubs brake calipers, brake hardline and flexline(or new stainless lines) the dustshield from teh 5lug donor car with said larger brakes, and a minimum 15inch rim....stock 14s wont fit the larger diameter brake calipers and rotors...not by a long shot...
4lug-->5lug with keeping single pots and non heavy duty rears: Requires the hubs and new rotors/pads.
Though keep in mind some parts stores will aske for heavy duty or non heavy duty when ordering pads and rotors, heavy duty is for the 4pot fronts and the large finned rear calipers, the rear rotors are also vented and thicker than the standard non heavy duty equipment.
hope this helps

no problem, but I should also mention this now before you dive in and lose teh possible daily driver(Like I nearly did) ORDER a set of the rear spindle nuts, since they are threaded in then locked in via a bent tab. If you have all yoru parts ready to roll it shouldnt take more than a couple hours with a buddy and a few drinks on hand, and some high temp bearing grease. I keep having lil nightmares from my swap, but its all in teh best.
