3rd Gen motor in 88 vert??

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
It is much easier to swap in a series 4 or series 5 13BT, and tweak it up, than to fit in a 13BT-REW.
Infact I think it was Ted or someone that said that it is easier to swap in a 20B than the 13BT-REW into a FC3C

It's been done......
Talk to the guy that did it a while back. He said he was glad he did it, but would advise anyone not to try it. WAYYY too much work for what it's worth.

13B-REW's from an FD do not drop into the FC chassis very nicely.  You need a custom set of mounts or weld in a custom engine crossbrace (might be tough with the vert under pinnings) to get the engine to sit correctly.  On top of everything else, it'll probably kill the rest of the NA drivetrain, so getting a Turbo II drivetrain is highly recommended.

i forget what company makes the engine mounts but it lets the 20B drop right in.. might as well do that instead of the 13brew... but i would suggest the S5 T2 swap

I did a series 5 swap in my T2. Worked out very nice. i had to rewire a bunch of stuff tho... i had a really good rx7 mechanic help me with the swap. other than the wiring it was all cake
i am upgrading to a haltech soon and i have a almost new s5 engine wiring harness with a g-force computer that you would need for the swap.. just PM me if you are interested

it can be done. the main thing needed was to tap the block to fit the mounts
here we see a 91 vert with a fd motor. a tII front cover was used. the stock ecu from the vert was used. (i dont care if you dont believe me) a manifold from a tII was used along with a tII turbo that was "upgraded" to a t04. the stock trany remains in use. a turboII rear was going to be put in, but decided against it becaue my friend has recently purchased an FD shell that will need this motor. and the car now has 2 additional injectors run by the hks unit.
car is going to be returned to stock for sale with no way to tell that this motor was ever in there.

So you used the FC front cover, which solves the problem of the FC oil pan lining up.  What happened to the FD magnetic triggers that were normally on the front cover?  Did you swap the FC CAS in for ignition trigger?  If so, how did you get the CAS gear installed on the e-shaft?  You went through all that trouble to stuff the CAS gear on the e-shaft for this conversion?  I find this a bit confusing...
The more I stare at the pictures, the more I start to think you're bullshitting.  You got any close-up pics of the engine bay?  The alternator looks rather small for an FD unit.  The power steering pump is from an FC - FD's never had v-belts with tension pulleys on them.  Is this a 13BT with a retrofit FD upper intake manifold and possibly twin-turbos grafted?

yeah ted, i am bull shitting. i will post other pics for you.
everything you are doubting is right, but just because you can not see how, does not mean it cant be done.

Couldn't you use the front cover from a GSL-SE? I know there's a guy locally with a 13B-REW block, the front cover that lets you mount the engine with a cross-member, a S5 TII LIM, a custom S4 UIM, all with a blower sitting on top. GOD I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT RUN!!! BTW, it has a distributor as well.
Anyway, between all the parts, you could mount a 13B-REW in an FC fairly easily... or so it would seem. You'd just need a Frankenstein 13B-REW.

Come on, all I want is two pics - one from the passenger side of the lower intake manifold over the turbos and one of the spark plugs holes...
There was one other guy on here, Greg Coe, who did drill his center housing and had to address the space from using the 13BT oil pan, cause it doesn't line up with the front housing of the 13B-REW.

ok ted, i will post them up. no problem
btw. i KNOW you are a very intelegent person, that is not what i was saying at all. i am just not one to bullshit people.
the car is my friends, so i will have to take pics on monday. you want LIM and spark plugs? no problem. and when i post them i am not going to say what 'else' is "not proper" and let you tell everyone. anything else you need to see?
BTW...what does this mean?
please explain to all of us what the "proper" way would be. my feeling is there is not a "proper" way, because it was not meant to fit. therefore if you can get it in there and working right, you did your job. if something was done differently your way, does it mean it is "better" or the "proper" way?
btw, many people on this forum have seen this car in person and can back up this "claim" to a true 13b-rew. i believe that would include the entire NE section that attended this years BBQ. i think that is roughly 100 people.

i would explain in detal if someone asked nicely. but when someone tosses up the BS flag.....
ted, you are quick to point out what is wrong with the pic, so now figure out what parts were used to make this fit with such ease. i would have posted plug pics, but i can not get a good pic. (they are all to dark to see anything)
it IS an FD motor w/ some mods done to it. you all can figure it out on your own now. and mind you there were about 20 different motors that were disasembled before the project began, so parts from all years and models were at disposal.
and what the hell do you mean by:

Sure, throw up more pics.  That's gotta be the most getto-est conversion I've ever seen.  That's got enough FC engine parts in it to barely be called a 13B-REW. Got any numbers on the power output or kind of turbo it runs?
The water pump (and housing) are definitely 13BT.  Which means the owner went through the hassle of swapping out the studs, since the 13B-REW water pump housing studs are longer (and don't fit - duh).
I get a headache trying to follow where all the lines go in all the pics!
Where does the owner live?  Is this vehicle required to pass emissions testing?
What I meant by "proper" is a 13B-REW long-block (sans turbo).  There are very few that have the 13B-REW short block, original engine mounts, and all auxiliaries (intake manifolds, water pump + housing, oil lines, etc.) intact.  This thing is a royal pain in the *** to install with the stock 13B-REW engine mounts.

sorry to disapoint you...
and yes it is ghetto, but it is in there and works. and done with no money, just spare parts lying around. (yeah...... it shows! )
some people dont have money to do it the "proper" way.
personaly i dont care what you think about it...i know you didnt "call my bluff" :P
