Since you are down here in sunny souf FLA... if you start the car while it is in gear then the cold start will not happen... it wont rev to 3k and waste gas... just make sure you take it easy until everything gets up to temp

Look up the throttle body assembly in the FSM. That will allow you to identify the cold start cam. You can remove the assembly and see if the problem remains. There may be an easier way to test, but you'll have to check the FSM.

i finally got it to idle right it idles at around 800rpm. what i did was i drove it for about 15 min after that the idle was 1500 so i tried adjusting the screw on top of the throttle body as well as the throttle screw (since i had messed with it b4 it probably wasn't adjusted right) after messing around with that it it now idles at around 800rpm. but for me to get it to be that low the screw on top of the TB is screwed down all the way as well as the idle screw is also down to the minimum. so i tried checking for vacuum leaks. i unscrewed the gas cap and definitely no hissing. also sprayed carb cleaner and the idle changed when i sprayed it by the back of the TB. so im guessing i have a vacuum leak somewhere. im going to start by replacing all the hoses since they seem very old and see if that fixes my leak. as for the current adjustment i made to the throttle screw and the screw on top of the TB will that cause a problem to have them down all the way?

The initial set coupler must be set when adjusting the idle speed.
This info is in the FSM which you MUST READ.
The 1500 RPM idle is produced by the cold start cam and if working properly, will gradually drop to about 750 RPM as the car warms.
