Banned. I got OWNED!!!
As far as the rear shocks go, they are a breeze to replace... You can change them out without even removing the wheels...
Also someone mentioned the sticker... On S4 models they are on the passenger side, where on S5 models it's embossed into the bumper on the driver's side...

I'll be picking it up in San Jose, near Great American. I'm going to have to have a shop put in the shocks because I'm sure the hotel won't want me wrenching on the car in their parking lot!
Do the Jiffy Lube type places check transmission fluid? I'm nervous about putting synthetic in at the start of the trip. I've heard that you want to stick with what was in it. Sometimes the synthetic stuff works loose gunk that is keeping a seal from leaking and next thing you know, you have a leak.

Sounds like fun. I'd stick to the interstate -- and to another's point, it's not the fact that stuff breaks between oil changes, it's the fact that it's a new car (to him) and you have NO idea what condition it's in. And the fact that you're going to be driving that long that far at semi constant speeds for extended amounts of times is a totally different animal then cruising around town.
And besides, it's one thing to have something break between oil changes when you're 20 miles from home, it's totally another to be 1500 miles from home.
Good luck, keep us posted, and have fun!

well, prepare to get oil changed by yourself or a pit stop...
buy oil filter and synthetic oil...
You probably need to do twice because 1st gonna do in the beginning and 2nd gonna do in the middle of nowhere.
In addition, you probably need to change Manual Transmission Fluid and REAR Differential Fluid in the beginning...
