u would half to do lots of cuts to remove the part u no longer need most will say dont do it because of the side effects of cutting springs but its the poor mans way of lowering a set off lowering springs dont cost that much nowadays though

Isn't the spring still preloaded at full droop? That would put tension on the spring as you cut it, and as soon you cut through you don't have any idea what that spring metal will do or where it will go. A preloaded spring is not your friend.

I can't remember exactly how loaded the OE springs are when I took them off (with proper tools). If the spring floats or dangles when the strut is completely extended, you're okay. But my memory serves that the front ones are still compressed even with the struts fully stretched while the nut on top still in place.

I have seen somone almost killed (broken jaw, lost an eye, broken cheek etc) by a spring comming loose while removing a strut mount
If you do not compress the spring before u loosen the mount if will slm up and kill you. You cannot cut the spring while it is still together..
And yes u can do that but that will give u the boucny honda look.. because that is what they do and thats is the outcome NOT NICE

If money is the issue, just wait till you save enough money. I switched to Eibach progressive with Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable, perfect for the street and the handling is just night and day.

well, in case no one wanted to answer the question, you have to completely remove the springs. and then cut and remove the cut off part.
if you simply cut them, they will kink on the cut portion of the spring.

You responsible old farts just ruined what could have been an awesome thread after it was bumped by the original owner a few weeks from now when he got out of physical therapy.

Look around for a great deal on some lightly used springs. I got Eibach springs and Tokico Blue shocks for 100 bucks.
Craigslist, eBay and the For Sale Section on these boards are all great places to find a great value.

Cody

A set of springs aren't that expensive. I got my set of 4 tanabe springs for about $150 shipped. Lowered the car by about 1.5", looks great, and handles much better than cut springs would.
If you do decide to cut the springs though, remove them from the struts before doing so. Cutting springs while still on the strut is like sawing of the barrel on a loaded shotgun. An oops moment could turn into a fatal "oh ****" moment.

I think some of the people replying didn't understand fully what he is wanting to do. He is wanting to cut the spring without first removing it from the car, i.e. cutting a loaded spring still attached to the strut. No. That is the craziest idea I have ever heard in my entire life.
