2nd Gen electrical gremlins

We've started work on the S4 we bought a while ago. Money in the pocket is alot better, and weve also aquired a civic hatch with a b16a swap as a daily driver :P

NOW HERE COME THE PROBLEMS-History

We purchased the 87 SE model from someone here on the forums about a year ago almost from a not so frequent viewer/poster of here on the RX7CLUB.com

what came with it were a set of springs..will get to this later

S5 tails
RB header going into some piping into magnaflow mufflers (LOUD AS HELL)
Supposedly rebuilt motor...

New Black dash-no cracks, its in a really good condition with no dried out spots etc...

now when we bought it, the kid told us that him and his father had attempted to redo the whole harness...as far as how much or what they did, we didnt know at the time

i took it for a test drive w/o any gauges (gauges were out, this is why the previous owner attempted at a whole rewire of the harness -_-) made sure that the idle was fine, compressions was fine, no smoke at startup, nor any smoke during the drive. No air bubbles in the coolant so no signs of coolant seals going by by.

the only thing that i really saw was some electrical problem, the Room fuse kept blowing
the PD needs to be replaced
Rust
some dents
needs new controls for wipers and lights, switches work...jsut the plastic surrounding to go onto the dash are all broken n what not
door locks need to be fixed
hatch hydraulics need to be replaced...all mest up
carpet needs some RnR
Seats we tore out last night...garbage...we have a pair of Black S5 seats (dont know if theyre different from S4s)
tires and wheels (DAMN THOSE PHONE DIALS 2 HELL)
sunroof needs to be replaced
mirrors are mest up too...we picked up a pair of S5 t2 mirros tho so hah

----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------

and so i get to the point of this thread

we were attempting to see what was blowing our ROOM fuse (7.5A)...went through alot. unplugged this and that harness and just said **** it, and just went along the whole harness to see if anything he had spliced or w/e was chaffing against some metal...

we found this

These are all in the harness where the Main blue plug goes into...

MY QUESTION IS...is this FACTORY?? Should we just invest into another S4 harness?

Those all look like standard Mazda Y connections (although the wires do look pulled on, so the insulation is a little further back than it should be).

ok, we will shrinkwrap them n cover them in electrical tape

would it be a good method to just connect things 1 at a time to see what pops the ROOM fuse?

i only notice one sympton that seems wierd. when in idle and the car is warmed up, and in gear, it has an erratic idle...EVERY NOW AND THEN,

it goes from a steady 900 and drops to 500 and goes back up to 900 in a matter of a second. I think this may be our tps crapping out though, i could be wrong (correct me if i am wrong, will test it later tonight !!)

As far as testing for the room circuit, yeah just unplug everything hooked up too it, but I would be checking the radio wires absolutely first thing as that is the most common short out.

Then look at the dome light wires themselves in the A pillar and at the dome light.

Then the rest.

as far as the idle issue, an occasional drop of RPM like you have mentioned is pretty normal and is just a simple mis-fire at idle. Typically it is caused by dirty spark plugs or too cold of a spark plug at idle (which the requirements are different than while under load).

But if it a very regular thing then I'd start looking at the CAS and coils and spark cables.

ok...

new issue that came out of the old one

We think we found something that was HELPING the problem, there was a S5 logicon that was rewired to the S4 harness, i am not sure if it needs to be rewired or w/e so we took it out and seemed everything is fine.

now...when we turn the car on, we get gauges, oil pressure, volt, water temp, tach, i have rewired an S5 gauge cluster to the S4, and then we turn the car off.

Then what happend about 5 min after, the room fuse blew??!!!

we decided to unplug everything from the main harness, and tried another fuse.

POP goes another....but this time almost instantly from when we connected the battery.

Then we decided to unplug the whole harness from the blue plug, and as soon as we connect the battery...it blows

When we have the harness plugged in and everything regrounded on it, all of the lights come on the idiot light cluster 1 by 1 very slowly, and our gauge cluster reads the voltage that we are getting, always at the 12v line.

questions are as follows

A) Should the ROOM fuse blow if the whole harness is disconected?

B) Should the car turn off if we disconnect the ignition tumbler from the harness??
....like should my gauges turn off so that i cant read the voltage anymore

We can start the motor still, and turn off the motor, but we always have gauges and power to the idiot light cluster

we dont have the logicon in nor is thier a radio in the car, and the dome lights are disconnected for now.

HELP PLZ!!

im hoping its some grounding problem in the engine bay that we need to check...
