i liked my 240 but after getting my FC just the whole feel of the car is so much better, im kinda glad i got a 240 at first to learn on and i also still love nissans but theres something about the 7 that i cant explain. the way it handles and responds to all the movements is amazing. o yea, but......uh......anyways......

Hmm a GTS. dought its worth what he has in it. I used to have one, not cracked up to what they are supposed to be, stupid initail d glorifying a economy car. Oh well it looks nice and if i could afford one nowadays i would ****** it up for a DD.

All these cars are 20 years old or older - they will break. A rotary car is harder to fix and harder to find somebody to fix. A turbo just adds one more device into the mix that can break.

If you're looking for fewer problems than an alternator and an oil leak look elsewhere. I've had two alternators and a driveshaft go bad on me. My front cover has a small oil leak - the car injects oil - my 40k mile reman dumps oil past the control rings. Many RX-7s that have been treated improperly will overheat causing coolant seal failure (requires full rebuild) and mistuned turbo engines can detonate and blow immediately - the 5/6th port system will not function for one reason or another - the 2ndary injectors will lag due to bad grounds.

Don't think that getting an RX-7 will save you a headache. If you check on the third gen section they suggest to always have at least $1000 ready to spend on your car each year if not more. A friend of mine recently blew his motor in the middle of a drift course.


With a little rear end work including rear steer eliminators and new shocks the RX-7 can geta significant amount of oversteer. People do suggest that you extend the steering control arms for more turning.

You can drift anything you put you *** to. Japanese don't worry about if their car is different (to an extent) as much as if thier skills and abilities are different. All cars break and you have to fix them. So I recommend buying anything and drift away I tried the "different" thing here and I didn't get self satisfaction.
Throwing a "bone" out there for ROTARYs though..........any 7 is guaranteed satisfaction (it's engraved under the rubber on the gas pedal) Gambata ne!

dont drift an fc. u want a drift car get a old musle car and lighten it up a bit, a lil more power in the V8 and there ya go drift crazy

Seriously, leave the FC turbos alone.
It's bad enough they are very hard to come by down here.
Go grab a cheap NA and then go mess that up.

Agreed. i just got my turbo II running again after the loser before me blew it up.
the car had "abandoned 4-27-2001" in pink marker on the side, i think its doing alot better now...

I drift my T2, I use to have a Nissan 240sx (s14) and it is like night and day. I could drift the S14 easily even on stock suspension, but my T2 much harder to drift, It is almost like starting all over again imo. I am getting more and more familiar with the car while drifting and all will be great soon.

It is a little harder to drift a FC, over a 240. But, Ive Been drifting my FC for years now, And when i get into my friends 240's its like im drift king or somethen. I went through about 2 months of drifting only S13s, and S14s. Its cool and all, but as soon as i got back into my 7, its a much better world.

Im NA, with 200k miles, stock motor. The only thing i ever find signifigantly harder to do in my rx7 than a 240, is dories. My 7 dosnt have quite enough tourqe in 2nd to keep it in a dorie. But im sure a full RB setup would fix that problem as well.


The FC IS a good drift car. If it wasnt why would people always want to drift them? why would so many of them be drifted in japan? do you see people asking all the time about drifting civics? nope. cause its not a drift car. but 240's corollas and rx7's are all good drift cars.

hm. you'll be satisfied with a S5 N/A... at first. of course you'll want more hp later, but for now a rebuilt motor, dtss eliminators, --**LSD**--, thin rear tires, will get you sideways. if you have money, anything will work: cressida, 200sx, te72 corolla, mkiii supra (all junkyard aboundant cars if you really dont wanna do the 240sx thing) i think the 7 is the most satisfying though. its just unorthodox in so many ways. and when you grow tired of drifting you can still have a car that'll hold up in just about any motorsport. you'll hate a t2 if you cant do or dont like doing your own work!

I think the S4 stock for stock is a better drift car than the S5, with the S5, your suspensions is super soft, and gives you a lot of understeer, and rear wheel hop.

The S4 already has pretty stiff suspension, all but the base model come with LSD(if i remember correctly).

although i do enjoy drifting my S5 more than my S4, prolly cause im used to all the creature comforts my S5 that my S4 dosnt.

i was thinking cressida in the back of my head, cause its cheap and you can have lots of passangers, But, its not a fun car to drift IMO. The 200SX is actuly a little comparable with the rx7, and a corolla, although closer with the corolla. The MK3 supras are not good drift cars, and are reknown for their headgasket problems(especily the turbo). Now, an MK2 is a VERY good drift car, the stock 5mge, or if you want to upgrade to a 6mg(t)e. That car has tourqe forever! And is VERY reliable. not to mention even if you crash that car, the parts are practicly indestructible, cant tell you how many of those ive seen crash into curbes and ditches and be perfectly fine. I had a friend who took his off-road ALL the time. went more places than most 4x4s.. never broke.

The rx7 really is a very fun car.

Dont let these people tell you its a bad drift car.

Wow...I've owned a '86 300ZX but never got around to drifting it cause i wrecked it a lil while after i bought it. Traded it for a '89 240SX and that thing was a blast to go drifting in...as long as i didn't break to many parts. Been driving my '88 Supra for about a month and it's tuff to drift since it's automatic. Then sold my 240 to buy my 1st '88 RX7 (one of my dream cars). Haven't been able to drift it yet since i'm gettin the automatic trans. swapped to manual. Been practicing my drifting for about a year...just be prepared to fix stuff WHEN u brake it...i had to have an inner tie rod replaced on that 240 (like 30 bucks for the part and my friend put it in for a pack of cigs and a double cheeseburger), and i just ate curb in my Supra like 4 nights ago while playing in the rain and totally ruined one of my rims and tire...suprised the Supra had a spare tire, tie rod, and strut in the back...but someone jacked my jack...

Rotary_Speed, lemmie juss tell you simply. sure, the fc in initial d looks crazy en all but fcs are more of a advance machine for drifting. im not saying that its impossible for beginners though. if your into d1gp or ever watched a option video, you see that fc's arnt as popular as s13/14/15. the reason is, in my opinion, the 240s are literally built for drifting. as you see the fc drivers, they either **** up, or dont even pass the elimination rounds and they are PROFESSIONALS. even drift samurai(yellow bomex fc) for instance. sure, hes famous but he never gets to the finals. but yeh thats only my opinion though. and like most say, rotary cars are harder to take care of than the 240s because fc's arnt that mainstream here therefore getting parts is a lil harder.(not impossible though). but hey, fc is a great old school car

To tell you the absolute truth my first drift car was a 4cly 240sx. Cheap as *****. Welded up the diff and started playing around a couple parking lots. Used shitty worn out tires and couldnt really drift with out the e brake. Slowly started getting better, and moved on to better techniques.

Car after that was a subaru hatch thing(think it was called a GXL) made it RWD. They then I understood the basics. Clutch kick, fient, PO, shift lock, all the rest.

Then I switched up to a RX-7 sport. It was a whole different story. It really wasnt any different than any other car, but I found I wasnt able to get as much angle as I could in my last 2 cars. I could go just as fast, maybe more, but it was like I hit a wall, and couldnt get any more angle. After about 3 months and a ton of practice I was getting more used to the car.

That was my personal experience. I may start back up drifting on day but I dought it. It lost its fun.

anyone who drove out to the dragons tail knows what these cars were built to do. Grip and take corners fast. You can make then drift but i like driving S14's more if i want to get sideways.

id get a fc i bought one and it has 190,000 miles on it idk why people are saying they brake down easy or w/e but i been drifting it for 5 months now and the only things thats going out is the stock LSD o-0 plus there way funner then a s13, s13's feel slow and just boring for the parts part i see parts always going around but yea its wat you feel best about it =]

Imho id take the rx7 over 240....as u said 240's r WAY common, where i live almost every hs kid buys a 240 and trys to show off and looks like a retard. and why would u take the easy way out and get a 240? imo id take a rx7 over 240 or whatever....its so much fun to drive drift or not drift and u have to put WORK into making it drift not just hop in and there u go.....plus rx7's look 10000x better then a 240...... you know its sad when u start to see more of a car then u see civics...and thats what the 240 has become.
