240sx vs. rx7

man...is it me or are the rx7s and the old 240 hatchbacks sweet *** cars...not to mention that the 240 is fast...what is stock hp on that thing? i was comin down the highway and one past me so i got beside him and we started racing...i have a N/A 88 but im patiently waiting for my exhaust and intake...hopefully cold...but yea i was beaten three times...but it was fun...after each run my friend in his 2002 SI would go up against him then his cousin in his Golf GTi would go next...i think those 240's might just be my next car

re:

The 240's are fast but not fast enough. Remember that it has truck engine in it. So the torque is what pushes it. The rev limiter is pretty ghey tho. My buddy's 93 240 tops out at 180, i think. There's a way around the limiter, but i dont know what it is. Might be costly as in a modded ECU. Quick speed is a SR20DET swap or a Turbo kit for the existing engine KA24de. I wanted to get a 95 and up 240sx but i found a cheap RX7. I might just fix it up sell it, and move on to the 240sx. I think the stock HP is 140. SR20DET is 200. Correct me if im wrong fellas.

1989-93 240sx ran the KA24D engine (truck engine). Not sure whar the 94-98 ran, but I am alost 100% sure it is still the KA. Now if you are like my roommate, would get a 1990 and drop a 1989-90 S13 SR20DET "Redtop" engine in it. Longer intake runners than the newer "Blacktop", so has greater aftermarket potential then the S15 SR20DET engine, however, the 240SX can accept the S15 drivetrain which includes:225 SR20DET "Blacktop", 6-speed tranny, and viscous LSD. Man, those cars are SWEET!! Nissan is a damn cool company!!

If I didn't have a Rex, I'd have a 1990 240SX, w/ a full S13 conversion.

my friend has one of these, my N/A with exhaust and intake has no problem taking it time after time, not to mention his tranny has been rebuilt twice already...apparently there was a recall on their transmissions in 1991 and 1992, the synchros would go shortly and then the gears would be grinded to ****...not a bad looking car but i'd take a 7 over a 240 anyday

Spend $3k on a good 1989-93 240SX, swap in a Redtop SR20DET for about $2k in parts, mod it for $1k, and you should have about 300+hp at the wheels. And with more torque than a rotary, you should, if lauched well, take a modded TII.

sports compact car had an article on how they made a $3000 silvia conversion theres a place in cali where you can get the sr20det engines that was listed in the magazine. the company imports bunches of silvia front clips from wrecks and stuff. dont remember what it was tho..maybe its on their website somewhere.

Yeah, but that one in SCC was kinda raggedy. And the block was cracked, so a $800 body would be an option, if you don't like lookin good while drivin fast!

240's are awesome cars. its one of my top choices if i didnt have a rx7.. but it needs the Sr20det to be fast.. stock hp on the 2.4l is 140 up to 1990 then 155 from 1991 to 1993 i think.

Yeah 240 was a decent looking car, as far as performance goes, they are crap out of the box, if your N/a fc can't take a 240, make sure no one stole a couple of your spark plugs.
There are alot of these cars on the streets where I live, they are being bought up by kids that don't know which way the peak of their ball cap is supposed to point, they add the flash wheels, prerequisite 6" fart can muffler that makes the car sound like a Suzuki RM125 and of course the the 12" sub just to annoy fellow motorists. I take great pride in obliterating them stoplight to stoplight with a 5.0 gm savanna van with 3500 pounds of cargo in it..Considering the 2 very different power to weght ratio's the 240's must have all of 50 rwhp..Max

I have to agree with Ted. 240's can be made to go fast with a lot of money. And with thier low end torque they can jump off the line ahead of an inexperienced rotary driver. Practice a little (and check your compression) and you should be able to beat him. I never lost to a non turbo 4 banger in my 87 sport (R.I.P.) unless it was spraying Nitros

two of my friends have S13's 240sx's with 180sx conversions one blacktop one redtop. both have full exhaust, intake and boost controller....... my TII is way faster with stock catback and no boost controller. they ARE EXPENSIVE to build.... its very fun to drive but a little too pricey for me

240sx is cheap and fast. the cost of the car and engine swap only cost around $5-10k depends on what engine you want. I say its one of the best sleepy to build.

redtop: 205hp
s14 blabktop: 235hp
s15 blacktop: 255hp

my friend has a 97 180sx blacktop no variable valve timing so it doesn't have 235hp

You can get that kinda power out of a T2 with very very little work when compared to the 240's

Really? I'm surprised, a TII with a catback might have 190-210 hp? A stock redtop would have at least 205 hp stock right?

Actually this is a big question for me, because I'm choosing between wanting to get a 240sx or an RX-7 (just moved from an island so no car transport)

The KA24D can actually be turboed. Pick up this months Sport COmpact Car. A guy with a KA is running over 400hp.

Yep, actually I hear its a big debate between a turbo KA or an SR since you're actually swapping out a smaller displacement engine Cost is probably cheaper for a turbo KA I'm guessing unless you can do an SR swap first time with no problems.

i've got a '91 nissan truck with the same motor as the 90-93 i think it is 240sx. I dyno'd my truck and it put out 115rwhp and 135ft lbs torque, may not sound like much but that equals out to about 140 at the flywheel considering i had a **** clutch at the time. My truck also had 225,000miles on the original motor

Actually they handle quite well. Thats one of their strong points. I drove my buddies 240sx and FC and found them both to be really good at handling but in diffrent ways. I guess the drifter vs. grippers. Depends on how you choose to drive the car.

Oh and that SCC SR20DET swap article, the shop they bought the engine from has raised his prices for some reason or another. Weird huh!

Firelance with a full exhuast system on a TII u cant expect 220hp to 250+hp with no other mods. U should get other mods very soon but with only full exhuast u can get huge hp for one mod.
