1st gen tranny?

i know that the 1st gen tranny can be used in our 2nd gens, but what i want to know is if i can take the shaft part from my 2nd gen ( what the shifter goes in to ) and bolt it up so that the shifter sets center with the 1st gen tranny. my tranny is gone from the previous owner( and he said he got rebuilt, my *** he did ) so i'm taking the tranny out of the parts car which is a 1st gen and i'm going to put into my good shell . if not i'm going to have to deal with a wierd un center shift

To get the 1st gen tranny to fit, you must take the tail shaft housing (the part that the shifter is attached to) from a 2nd gen tranny and use it in place of the 1st gen tail shaft.
