1st gear problems

Today I was stopped at a red light and when I tried to shift it into 1st, it wouldn't drop into gear. There was no grinding noises or anything, after a bit of force it droped in. I stopped again, same problem. So I started to head home and I realized that if I shift to 1st from a slow roll it drops right in. Anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

my freind with audi a4 had the same problem. He couldn't shfit into 1st gear unless he was going 5mph or slower. To correct the problem you can blame the tranny fuild. Put in Redline Mt90 in the tranny it should fix that problem

If you are stopped and it won't go in you got a problem.

Howerver if you are trying to downshift into first gear while moving you are a dope, at slow speeds(unless you are taking off from a dead stop) you use second gear.

I'm not shifting to first at a high speed or anything. I can only get it into first with no force by shifting just before the car stops.

have you checked your clutch hydraulics to see if they are weak?

Try this: shift into 3rd and 4th then into 2nd then try 1st. If that doesn't work maybe your synchros are bad or something.

I went to try that, but before I tried the other gears I tried first and it went in no problem. I'm going to check the gear oil to see if that may be the problem.
