FL 1g dsm bov on t2?

I'm just finishing up the t2 swap on my 7 and one of the last things I need is a bov. I'm low on money and I saw something about useing the oem one off a dsm.

I can't find much information about it though. This is the one I'm looking at.

Should it work if I weld the flange onto my stock intercooler pipe? Has anyone ever done this?

I was also thinking about the hks ssqv but they range from $50-$150 on ebay and I'm afraind if I buy one of the cheaper ones I'll get ripped off. Doesn't make since that there would be such a big price range for the same part...

So anyway what do you guys think? Or do you have any other suggestions?

If you go hks make sure it's not a knock off they suck. I would suggest save up a bit and get a real brand they cost more but there worth it. I had a dsm one on my 7 when I first got it, worked ok but i changed it out rather fast after I got the car so can't really say much about it but it worked while I had it.

If your low on money could you get your hands on a stock bov?

Otherwise get a cheap turboxs or something. Don't hear too much bad about that brand.

Damn even the turboxs are $150+. I think I'm gonna try the dsm one out. It's super cheap and I would think good quality if it's an oem part. Even if not for a mazda...

just use the stock one, they work fine. a stock one from an FD will also work, just get one off the classifieds. or get a charge relief valve from an FD, that's the same thing as a blowoff valve basically. Any FD owner that has been converted to single turbo or non sequential will at least have a charge relief valve one lying around. the charge relief valve is vacuum operated and dumps air from the secondary turbo as it is spinng up. it works just like a factory air bypass valve.

the problem with a DSM or WRX BOV is that it's flanged. a 3000GT/Stealth BOV could bolt up as they don't have flanges but they tend to leak

My stock bypass valve cost me $10. Post a WTB ad if needed.

I'll try to find a stock or 3rd gen one but if not couldn't I just weld the flange to my stock intercooler pipe. Or get a new pipe and weld it on?

also if you buy an aftermarket BOV kit that's designed for an Rx-7 it will have an adapter that has a cast piece with a flange on one end and a hose barb on the other. but I thought you were trying to do the simple/cheap solution. there really is no performance advantage to an aftermarket BOV, you just do it for the sound. and you can vent a stock BOV to atmosphere if you really want the sound. you just have to install a swing valve/check valve from the plumbing section so that you don't have unmetered air entering the engine

I could care less about sound. If it works I'm happy. The only reason I was looking at aftermarket is because I can't find a stock one. I'm looking through the classifieds right now.

Thanks again for the help guys.

you forgot to mention the cheapest method of all, which is just not running a BOV at all. atmospheric BOVs on the stock ECU cause a severely rich condition on decel which is ok i suppose if you like fireballs.

ha you're talking to a guy who hasn't had a BOV in years. I've never done it on a stock computer though.

the stock BOV just vents the air back into the intake so the same amount of metered air is going through the system. the stock BOV is just a noise suppressant(compressor surge) as you should know so it should be fine without one.

i assume mazda used them because otherwise people would be bringing their cars in for warranty with a rattling noise coming from their engine on decel. it's rather difficult to tell people that just about any noise from their car is normal, having been working for dealerships for almost 15 years.
