1990 Vert- price check

I am buying a spare car tomorrow.

Its a Black on Black 1990 vert. 200k, reman motor 30k ago. 5spd. Interior is a 7/10. Exterior needs a bit of work (buff and a fender touched up) 6/10. Car runs and drives great. Exhaust sounds like it has a hole, but thats easy. It needs a TPS. The top has a small tear, but common. It needs new tires, but has nice 17" aftermarket rims. He is asking around $2k, I plan to pay less. Oh it has a salvage title sadly, but there is NO damage to the car other then a paint scratch. I think I will try to have it reversed.

I have a spare suspension, new wheels and tires, HKS intake, Apexi N1 catback, 13b header, spare interior parts.

Whats a fair price? Im thinking around $1500- $1700?

This is all my opinion, based on personal experience.

That's a $1000 car-max.
The salvage part reduces the value by $1000, easily. I never heard of reversing a salvage title. The best I think you can do is get a title branded *Repaired*

Then you still have to restore the car.

Repair refurbish prices are as follows, IF you do it yourself:

$400-800 top

$ 500-1000 Paint- A buff won't do. It has a factory clear coat on the black. If it is
factory, the fade won't buff out. If it is a repaint, it is probably
cheap *** paint and won't buff out.

$500 Exhaust-if you have the local shop do it or if you buy a cheap ebay
exhaust.

$500-1000 for assorted tune-up, belts, hoses, fluid replacement, electrical parts, trim etc.

$500-1000 for stuff you don't see now.

Even though you have the extra parts already the value of the car is still diminished by the above amounts at minimum.

When you get that car you will spend1500-3000 to make it an 8/10 kinda car. If you have to pay 1500-1700 for it, you will have $3000-4500 in it.

The car is worth more parted out, but unless you intend to part it, the above is reality.

I have an $1100 vert that is now at $3500 and I have done EVERTHING except the mufflers with my own hands. I keep a log and everything that is spent is on the list. you will be surprised at how many $5 and $15 items that old car will need over the course of a couple of years.

I am doing the paint right now-sanding and primer this weekend.

Is it worth it? Yes. But I cannot emphasize enough that you need to buy a good car and not overpay for one that is not good.

Good luck! Nothing beats an RX7 convertible for pleasure.

Don't waste your money unless you want to drive a junker. If you want to buy a fixer, start with one with a clean title. Ther are plenty in your price range. You will find it impossible to get your investment back on a slavage titled car.

EXAMPLE:
I purchased a 89 convertable about a year ago for $6K. It was a Florida car, one owner, kept covered in a climate controlled garage. It had 56KM. The car is show quality. Everything except the tires are original, but look brand new. I receive compliments every time it is driven. I have seen lesser cars for over $10K. It was an Ebay sale. Although cosmetically correct, I find switches and rubber hoses/valves to be in 18 year old shape. It is now mechanically/electrically restored. Keep looking. It took me three months to find a car at the right price. It is a pleasure to drive, and will not depreciate from the paid price.

ok -- salvage title shouldn't matter to you unless you plan on reselling it, but i sound to me you want it as a toy --

and dude! jackchild your list is not right! those prices are not righT!

i bought my vert for 3000 in good shape, 90,000 miles on it stock engine and ive daily driven it for 2 years only things ive been forced to do to it : new clutch (and i already knew it was going out when i bought it) and new brake pads! of yea and my heater hose broke one time but that cost me a grand total of about 15 bucks lol

anyway what im tryin to get to is that 1,500 sounds good
