1988 SE "Floating Redline" problem
Have had this problem for some time; it doesn't appear to be serious but is very annoying and finally want to get it fixed. Description: For some reason, the redline buzzer doesn't always sound at 7K RPM. On a given run (to the store or whatever), it will consistently sound at a given RPM, say 5600, or 6300 or 6500, whatever. It is the same throughout the run, but different on different runs. There doesn't appear to be any correlation between this and environmental conditions (ie, doesn't matter if it's hot or cold outside). It also doesn't matter if the engine is warm or not. Very strange and very annoying.
Another problem I'm having may be related. Upon startup, the idle has been fluctuating between 1000 and 1500 for the first 3 minutes or so, before finally settling down to 750. After the engine is warm, the idle is a rock-steady 750. Also, if the engine is warm, and I'm sitting at a stop light, it's impossible to hold it at a steady RPM higher than idle (750). If I press the accelerator with clutch depressed, and shoot for, say 2000 RPM, the RPM will fluctuate between say, 1900 and 2100 RPM. I should mention that engine has about 105K miles on it.
Thanks in advance.

damn, you MAY have low compression if it doesn't like to idle at 750.....but look at that as a last resort.
It may not be the redline buzzer. Could be coolant buzzer or low oil buzzer. Any Codes in the ECU? how about the idiot lights?
