1988 rx7 tranny noise

hi i purchased my first fc a couple weeks ago and i love it!! being a toyota guy, i have no flipping clue about these cars lol car drive like a champ and i really glad i bought it.... with only 163xxx miles on the original motor, iam impressed of how well it drives.. only thing is that everytime i drive it, wen in gear, it wines from the transmission.. not to loud but loud enough were its something i want to address the issue and get it fixed asap. before it breaks on me... is it common for the tranny to wine wen in gear?? as soon as i push in the clutch, the wine goes away.. but wen in gear, it wines... any suggestions???

I had the same issue, for me it was a loose front cover on my transmission. As a result of it, all of my transmission fluid was coming out of the front cover (and was the cause of the whining noise). I'd take care of it sooner than later, I think it's always better to be safe than sorry.

And unless you have a spare transmission lying around, you don't want to leave these things to chance.

P.s. the note about the pilot bearing is also a factor, but I also had a loose pilot bearing, and it sounded more like a helicopter taking off, I think the whining is a result of low fluid.

I just started working for Mazda and one of the techs told me it could be low tranny fluid... The guy who had before me said he replaced the clutch at Mazda and had the transmission rebuilt..... So first ill check the fluid if not then ill have to put out the transmission... Thanks puhpaper
