1987 Mazda Rx-7 Purchased...now to get it running...

All my life i've been into Honda's and one day on our towns local bulletin board I saw and advertisement for a 1987 Rx-7 Project or parts car...I went and saw it...body was too good for a parts car so I decided I would make it my project...I'm diving in head first with no experience on these cars or on the rotary engine...so I will have a few questions to ask from time to time...The car would not start...the previous owner put some oil in the rotary housing to prevent the engine from seizing but he had never had it turn over or run. I took off the belts and cranked it by hand...it turned smooth...put some new terminals on the battery cables and went to start it...wouldnt crank only lights worked...looked at the fuse box..the main fuse with (80 amps was blown) went down to candian tire, picked one up car turns over now.. the tank is rusted out and the fuel pump is shot...to see if the car could fire can I pour a little gas into the rotary housing, like a piston engine? I tried it but it didn't fire...it has new wires and coils and plugs...he says it had spark..i will test for that..how can I test for the crank angle sensor? If it doesn't work does this prevent the car from firing? I have read about the crank angle sensor and how you have to disconnect it to perform a compression test...just wondering if it didnt work that the DIS wouldnt work as well? Can i test the Crank angle sensor without the car actually running? Thanks for the help in advance
