According to my gearing calculator, I was doing 126, with 4:10s and 1:1 4th gear, at the end of the straight at T-hill, at 7500 RPM.

Still had 5th to go, but was running out of room going into turn 1.

Yep, I've seen 210kmh (120mph) indicated with the top down too, on a few occasions - passing usually - with lots more to go from the feel of it.

Must find a really nice stretch of road sometime and wind her out....

a power to speed ratio with out outside variables is a very in accurate way to calculate how much HP is actually needed to go 160mph.

The racing beat FC did 238mph with a MOSTLY STOCK body and 537hp @14.7psi. Not that you didn't already know that, just pointing it out for the slower folk

Next rant:

150mph in a S4 TII is NOT @ the redline. At 145mph INDICATED by the stock speedo the tach reads a solid 6,350 RPM. When redlined in 5th gear the actual top speed resides between 157mph and 163mph but I forgot just where

ONLY 135?

are you sure that a TII will only do 135?? I have had my 86 na gen 2 up to that, with more room to still accelerate. Just question...and oh yeah, my car is bone stock.

Wow, you Anzacs sure have some seriously thick air down there, as well as a strange set of transmission gears. LOL.

Like Funklord stated, Stock Body (mostly) 238.442mph = 383.735kph
However, finding a driver, tires, and road suitable for that speed may prove a bit difficult.

given ample road a S4 TII in PRIME CONDITION should be able to hit 140 - 145.

a S5 is like 145 - 150.

The cars climb good through the first 4 gears, its that fifth gear that slows her down

What I’m talking about is increasing the power of one car and making no other changes. That was the original question. So the variables (coefficient of drag, cross-sectional area, density of air) don’t change and thus cancel themselves out of the equation, leaving only speed and power. The relationship between them in these circumstances is set in stone and easily calculated. I’m not making this up y’know...

The baseline data I’m using is from an Aussie mag that tested the 89 Turbo using a Daltron Correvit that’s worth thousands of dollars and has been proven to be highly accurate, as opposed to the stock speedo which is way off at high speed. They measured the top speed at 216 km/h (135mph) at 5950rpm in 5th. This means 7000rpm would give 159mph. So your figures are about right.

BTW, that Racing Beat RX-7 may have a close to stock body, but it also has very narrow tires (lower drag and frictional losses) and is very low. So straight away thay reduces coefficient of drag and cross-sectional area. Air flowing under the car is very turbulant, and it’s makes them unstable at high speed (ask Mark Webber); RB obviously knew that.

ok I'll admit that math is not my strong subject. my only point was that 250 - 260 hp at the crank will yield you 160mph in a FC

This is relvinnian again. I did some of my own digging. A series IV with a base of .31 drag cd, and stock peak power made around 6500 rpms, stock tire height of 24.85", 4.10 final, .76 5th, the top speed would be around 142 MPH @ 6400 RPMs in 5th.

For a s5 T2 same perimeters. 5th is .72, 200 bhp @ 6500. Top speed is 147 MPH @ ~6400 RPMs.

With a .29 CD, it is changed to 144/149 respectively. Completely stock.

NZ Conv. I think your calculations are way off. I'm sure why you are getting the numbers you are. Maybe this has something to do with it:

Wow, you Anzacs sure have some seriously thick air down there, as well as a strange set of transmission gears. LOL.

Soul Assasin can do NEAR 180mph (300kph) but he has different gears, and over 500rwhp when he said this.
And he has an RE Amemiya FC2000 front bumper, and no spoiler (not even stock spoiler)
I bet he had a little more power to use also.
It would be best if he clarified this himself.

Yes, they do have a different 5th gear, but I don't have my charts on this computer to tell you what they are (or what stock N/A are for that matter)

Show me how you calculated that. Prove me wrong and I'll happily admit it, but I'm using a top speed measured with a very accurate performance meter, and a basic, long-proven physical relationship.
BTW, your tires are a little big. They measure 300mm from the ground to the centreline, giving a rolling diameter (different to overall diameter) of 23.62".

What is the s4 fifth gear? I used .82 with a 205/55-16 tire at 24.88" and a 4.10 to get 176mph @ 8000rpm. That's not hard to pull in a TII, but is the fifth gear .82?

Not quite....unless you want to go through that glass window up front

The only numbers that I know of, for Europe/Japan spec TIIs, are the 135+ mph (220kph) actual speed indicated by the factory specs, and the 240kph that I saw on the speedo with 80% boost and horribly clogged exhaust.

I also know that a '91 TII with turbo-back exhaust and cone filter does 250+ kph easily, so it could max out the stock speedo...

...and you do all know that air resistance is exponentially increased, right ?

Oooppss, forgot to add: according to http://2ndgenrx7.freeservers.com/specsmaster.html, '91 TII has 146mph (234kph) top speed

The S4 5th gear is 0.762:1.
Your 24.88" (632mm) diameter is a calculated figure, which rarely matches reality (don't ask me why, ask the tire makers). It's also the overall diameter, which is the wrong number to use because the bottom of tires compress under the cars weight. You need to measure the distance from the ground to the center of the wheel. This'll give you a 300mm rolling radius.
