Question 12a in my 87?

How well will a 1980 12a from a first gen fit into my 87?
Has anyone done this? And do I need to mod anything?
I have choice of either the 5-speed from the 12a or the one in my car now with bent forks.

Actually, I just covered this about a day ago...Let me see if I can find the thread...

The basic conclusion is that it isn't worth the trouble...

Maybe with a Bridgeport it might be worth it.

But you are putting a less powerfull engine into a heavier car...doesn't sound like a good trade just theoretically speaking.

True, but in that case a 4 port 13B would probably be the best choice. It mounts right up.

Well the deal is some guy offered me $400 or less on a good running 1980 base model with 40,000 on a rebuilt 12a. I have 2 other 1987 ones but I know one needs a motor and one i think might need a rebuild and at least a tranny.

Cool...What was the reasoning behind installing the 12A?

Please, Please, PLEASE do not sacrifice a good SA to save a dead FC! The SA's are getting very rare, and $400 for a running one is a steal. I paid $450 for one with a blown engine, and have only even seen about four others in the past five years.

Besides, that swap is technically illegal anyway. You can't swap in an engine older then the chassis, not like many places outside of People's Republic of Kalifornia really care though.
