well, sometimes the engine will simply tell you what it likes. 20W50 not always being ideal, in fact i only use it if the engine is tired enough to require it.

the renesis for example uses 5W-20 oil, they also show the most wear on the engine bearings at the same mileage as our engines do. the tolerances are exactly the same in both engines where it counts. unless the engines were revved 50% higher constantly, there is no other reasoning why this is the case.

i run 10W-30 in my RX8 regardless of the recommended oil.

The only difference of myself then and now, is now I have learned to just relax and let things go... I admit I feel like the 20w50 has been overkill, and I'm almost worried what kinda wear I've been doing. Im switching back to 10w30.

(but maybe not even 5w40?)

the owners manual states the oil viscocities. it suggests using 20W50 in the warmer months and 10W40 in the colder months. i have always used 20W50 in all of my RX-7's without issue. i've used 10W40 in the colder months and also have not had any issues with the oil pressure or noticed any lubrication issues or leaks.

Ok, so what about synthetic oil?

Let's all discuss for the entertainment of those on Valium and Doobs...
