There are quite a few people here that haven't yet learned a lesson regarding driving at unsafe speeds. Fear not, you will, I just hope you don't kill yourself, or someone elses loved on in the process.
I used to drive that way myself, I think most of us have at some point. I lost a wheel (micro-fractures in the lower control arm) in my Renault SCCA Car (Renault GTA) at about 70 mph, threw me into oncoming traffic, then tried to roll down a 60' hill. I've been a lot more careful regarding my driving behavior since that day.
Not that you'll listen to this anyway...

i will listen to that and i hope nothin like that happens, in fact i never even talk about the possibility of getting into an accident because i dont want any bad karma...i have even backed off from my friends because i felt like they were drivin too crazy...i dont know what my point is really i know you guys mean well by sayin whatever about that...its just i dont feel like im being a danger everytime i go out and drive my damn car...but when i come on the forum i feel guilty as hell

ok...so you lost a wheel at 70 mph. so does that mean nobody should go over 65? no. i fail to see the point. yes, car accidents happen. yes, they are slightly more likely to happen if you pysh the limits of your car. yes, they are generally worse when you are going faster. so? you can still die at 35 mph. basically, a car is an unsafe mode of transportation. period. now, if you like to risk making it a little worse by driving faster, so what? i'd rather people drive fast and alert than slow and drunk...
bottom line is... drive however fast you want.. if youre comfortable witht he risk, and there isnt a whole lot of other traffic, then why not?

Not to be preachy or anything but:
The bottom line is that the only time it's safe to go really fast is when there's zero chance of there being anything unexpected happen. This will never happen and the only time you can get close is on the race track where there is a controlled environment where the corner workers will alert you to upcoming hazards. There's never a time or place on public roads where it's truly safe. Even when you're in the middle of nowhere in the dead of night with no traffic, there can still be wildlife on the road. Near civilization there may be pedestrians, or traffic, etc.
To restate what digitalsolo said, you may be willing to take the risk by going really fast, but when you do so you're endangering other people's lives, and they're not willing to risk their lives so you can get a quick thrill. It is not your decision whether or not to risk their lives, and that's what you're doing when you go fast on the streets. Are you really ready to live with the knowledge that you killed some innocent people? If not then don't go really fast on the streets, if so then you're a horrible person and deserve to die in a horrible single vehicle crash (no one else is hurt) when you loose control at high speeds.

You don't just grab a ratchet and tighten the hell out of the bolt. The bearings have to be done with some care. There's a specific procedure in the FSM that uses a pull scale. But if you don't have a pull scale, you can use a torque wrench to set the bearings to 16-18ft-lbs. They won't be perfect, but they'll be close and should stay tight for a long time... If you haven't checked them in a long time, why not do it now. And put in fresh grease if the current stuff is black.

the question here is how fast is 'fast'? i mean... is it really that much more irresponsible to go 110 than it is to go 80? or how about we add some more variables:
is it really that irresponsible for me, a good driver, with track experience, driving a modified RX7 with very good handling, a powerful engine, many safety features, and carefully inspected parts, etc, to drive at, say 140?
and if so, then how about for joe shmoe, who is a shitty driver, driving a geo metro, minivan, etc, that hasnt been serviced at all, bald tires, 13k miles on oil change, etc, to drive 80 mph?

Regardless, it's like saying, he stole 50 bucks, so I might as well also. Circular logic, and self justification. I know it's over used, but two wrongs don't make a right.
edit: My point about the car at 70 mph, was that it WAS carefully inspected. Microfractures wouldn't have been visible, short of magnafluxing the control arms (do YOU do that?). If I'd of been doing 90 mph, I wouldn't be here, neither would an innocent person in the opposite lane for that matter. Hell maybe it was your Mom or girlfriend coming toward me.

its anyone's choice to drive fast so long as they are not around other people who they could hurt or mame. driving 140 out in BFE is fine, driving 140 through traffic in downtown is not ok.

yes, but the problem is, there's no definition for a 'safe speed'. i mean... where your logic leads is that no one should ever drive. or at the least that no one should ever drive at a speed great enough that the kinetic energy of their car is enough to throw them through the windshield, break off their steering wheel, etc other thing that can kill ya. I am an engineering student, so i definately know the physics by the way.
in the end, the only valid argument is to drive the speed limit, that way you won't get a ticket, and ostensibly it is an average 'safe' speed. however, even that argument doesnt hold much water considering the idiocy of some speed limits in certain places. I guess it's just a case of 'to each his own'.
EDIT: and MY point about the control arm is that it was a unique circumstance, and there really is no saying what would have happened had such and such other thing been the case. for all you know, the vibration of your wheel on the road at a constant 70 mph matched the resonant frequency of your control arm, setting up a constructive harmonic interference, and at 90 mph, the damn thing would never have broken.
ps have you ever seen the video of the tacoma narrows bridge collapse? has nothing to do with this, but way cool all the same.

lol..this reminds me...as far as high speed physics...when i was in high school i tried to convince my dad that higher speeds where safer due to the 'playing card in a tornado' effect-- that is..if i were going 70 and hit a tree, the tree would stay, and my car (me) would absorb all the force. however, if i were going 180, and hit the same tree, the tree would break, absorbing a great deal of force, and I and my rx7 would come out with much less damage.

ok well neways I used to own the car the origional post was about, if it really bothers you just get the brake rotors turned. I am positive that is what it is since I just put new pads on it and didnt turn them. Im pretty sure it didnt have that bad of a vibration when I owned it not bad enought that you had trouble holding the wheel any ways and I regularly took that car up to higher speeds going over to eastern WA.

I had the speedo topped out at 150 in my GXL 3yrs ago. It had a bonez intake and Apexi exhaust. It was smooth and to the point. Still had some rpms left, but didnt feel like pushing it. It was a good ride. I dont think the stock speedo and cable are very accurate though.
