yes it will bolt right up, I just needed to use a couple spacers so the pullies line up correctly. You are going to need a new pulley for it as the 3rd gen alts come with a pulley designed for a serpentine belt, and the 2nd gens use V belts.
Wiring it up isn't hard at all, just need one of the two wires coming from the current connection going to the alt, not sure which one off the top of my head, and then you need to make another one that has 12v on it at all times. connect those with the two wires on the 3rd gen connector and your done. Again, I am not sure about the wire colors but I can get them for you if needed.

The one I had on my stock alt wouldn't work, there is a little nub on the front of the fd alt that was basiclly going to rub against the one I had. But I had underdrive pullies on the stocker, so I am not sure if the stock pulley will work or not, seeing as I didnt have one.

Another option is to just buy a standard high output aftermarket one wire alternator. These are available from almost any supplier to fit Chevys and Fords with outputs well above 100A. It will take a bit of fab to make brackets to mount, but if you've done something like that before it will be easy.

i dont know if your driving an S4 or S5 and you really dont specify how much of a gain in amperage you need so ill go from there..
if your in an S4, get an S5 alternator. someone probably knows these numbers better than me but i think the S4 is rated @ 70 amps and the S5 alternator pushes 85 amps? the swap is as simple as reading one of the short sweet tutorials you can find with a simple search on the forum and is a breeze to any monkey who can splice a wire
some/most alternator rebuilders can refurb that alternator to a higher amperage. who knows what they can pull out of this small alternator but im sure they can get a 10-20 amp gain.

I haven't seen Silverrotor around here for quite sometime... Try sending him a P.M.
I paid like $190 for my S6 100 amp alternator with a double pulley including shipping to fit my S4 about 3 years ago. That was pretty expensive but I was/am very happy with it.

I have an aftermarket high output alternator (rated 180amp) that was designed for the FC/FD. You will have to make your pulley fit, but that is all. $225 shipped. I paid $450+ for it and put, maybe 6000 miles on it. PM me for pictures if you are interested.
This alternator was rated 150amp at 200 degrees F. So it probably puts out even more than 180amps cold (which is what other manufactures use for their ratings).
here is the thread i bought it from. I bought it in 2007, in October...it was completely new at the time.
