i tried to remove the 100 amp fuse.
i destroyed it before i realised what i was doing wrong.

i hooked up the alternator wrong on my t2 swap.

i broke my afm when i simply unscrewed the screws and yanked. car worked for like 2 weeks then randomly died.

um... yanking off the radiator cap when the car was hot.

and many many other things not totally stupid but not smart anyways.

texFCturboII 01-01-08 06:04 PM

I drive a wankel rotary.

ivegonemad 01-01-08 06:08 PM

i let it over heat...now it smokes on cold start ups...

So, I made this thread so we could all share the stupid things we did with or to our FCs while building/repairing/customizing or driving it. This should be funny. Don’t be shy, we all made mistakes. And sharing these mistakes will prevent other members fo doing the same ones…probably.

Let me start. I have a couple of good ones…

Well, I made a J-Spec swap this winter. And I’m the kind of guy that double checks everything twice at least…except this one time, and it bite me in the ass…think I’m still bleeding from that shit…Anyhow, I’m putting in my new J-spec engine in and since I removed everything from the engine bay to paint it, I figured I’d plug the starter just to see if it would crank…When I come to plug it in, instead of checking exactly on which pole goes the large wire to the starter, I figure I would assume it goes there by judging from the natural shape of the wire…

Well….you guess it. WRONG POLE. And she was sure to show me I made a mistake…by melting the freaking gauge cluster…Turns out she grounds her self with the speedo cable when you choose the wrong pole. And the gauges don’t like that. :( It also killed my battery…

DOH!

Freakin princess.... ;)

so i had just bought my fc and my battery died. were were trying to go test drive it so my friend jumped it when he did he put the battery cables on backwards stero never worked again!!

Ive done several stupid things, but by far the biggest fuck up was a few months ago when rebuilding my engine. Basically, I was putting the engine together by myself and had a bit of trouble getting the middle plate lined up right. When I adjusted it, apparently an apex seal end piece popped out. I didn't notice it, and proceeded to tighten down the stack, sandwiching it between the iron and the housing, destroying the housing. Once it was all tightened down, I rotated the e-shaft to make sure it was clear, and caught the corner on the seal, destroying the rotor.....

I forget to put the car into neutral to start it sometimes....

Your car doesn't have a clutch start switch I take it?

I did that in my FB a couple of times ...

The Shaolin 01-01-08 11:11 PM

I'll add that I just broke a rear brake hard line because it's rusted through and now have to replace the whole damn thing.

Not my fault, but I'm not happy about it.

misterstyx69 01-01-08 11:43 PM

I had the car up on Four axle Stands, and changed my Transmission out..In order to get the Car down,I had to Lower the tires onto Wooden planks, then Slip the Floor jack under it.Well I did One side OK.I go and do the front,,Done..then I get the back Drivers Side..It comes down.slips off the Jack and Starts Rolling Forward..I had "No Choice" but to Stick my Foot under the Tire to Stop the car from Rolling into My Neighbours House!.I didn't break my Foot,But I can still remember Me Yellin at the car..Wah?..Woah,woah,woah!..hahaha!

helghast7 01-02-08 12:16 AM

^ i honestly cant imagine a 7 would ever be able to break any bones from slow rolling over it....they just seem so damn light......heres a perfect example:

My jackass friends will occasionally parrallel park my car for me.

meaning 3 people will pick up the backend and swing it into the space right next to it.

there so nice arent they?

quick question that has stumped me for years now, why the hell do you guys call your hand brake an e-brake, im assuming emergency but how is that an emergency break??, i also heard you guys fail your driving test if you use your hand brake during the test? i apologize for asking about it in this thread i just don't want to start a new thread to ask one question. much appreciated

Pretty sure here in California if you use it when not parking, you fail your test.

I hear the term hand brake / e-brake interchanged a lot.

I figure emergency brake because I think you'd only want to use it while moving if your normal brakes failed you.

texFCturboII 01-02-08 01:45 PM

......or if you felt like swinging your back end around. but i guess you could clutch-kick too.

I'm talking about normal, non-jackassery driving.

texFCturboII 01-02-08 01:53 PM

me too! lol.

Bronze MFP 01-02-08 02:43 PM

its called an ebrake because it is supposed to be a backup if the hydraulic system fails. thats why its always a mechanical linkage, something far less likely to fail.

as far as stupid mistakes... I dont have any with the FC yet, i made all of my mistakes on my 240sx

ericgrau 01-02-08 03:03 PM

Or if your parking brake fails while you're parked. On a hill you're supposed to put the tranny in park (or put a manual tranny in 1st or reverse), set the emergency brake and turn the steering wheel all the way. You steer into the curb if parked facing downhill and away from it if parked facing uphill. You get double backup that way.

There was an episode of Inspector Gadget where, out of concern for the safety of the disguised villians, Gadget kept setting their emergency brake for them (yes, "emergency brake"). He inadvertantly pulled all sorts of levers in the villians' spy cars that foiled the villians' plots.

Bronze MFP 01-02-08 04:20 PM

i hate people that put the car in gear (or park for autotragic transmissions) and don't use the e-brake. i've had my car turn the engine over on a hill and start rolling back before i got the e-brake on. kinda scary

jaychen 01-02-08 07:03 PM

hmm much appreciated guys, when i drive here we have alot of hills so we use the handbrake to do hill starts so you dont burn the crap out of your clutch, and even when we are being lazy or to get the back end out, always on a private road of course though.

Honestly? That's just good thinking, plus some people get up on your tail, ignorant of the fact that not everyone drives an automatic...

magus2222 01-02-08 10:05 PM

the worst and most stupid thing i have ever done, besides buying an rx7......(j/k) no, was sliding it into a median, and totalling the ONLY car i have.

ok, not the only, but the only driveable one.................................ya, still learning.

peace

actually its correct name is a parking brake, a true emergency break would have lines to the front tires since those are the stronger and more used of the brakes

most of the smart people wont use the parking brake, especially in cold weather because the mechanical linkage will freeze or seize and then you are unable to move your car until the lines thaw out.

the bese way would be to do as said, to turn the wheel all the way to the curb and have the back tire rest on the curb, theres no way its going to move

my friend did that once, he had to go outside with a blowdryer and warm up the lines just so his car would move.........

he listens to me now

jaychen 01-03-08 11:05 AM

errrrr turnig the whell into a cur b a curb , a little drunk a ia m but get it side wasss waysss pceeee
