Question $700 Tii part2: She runs... but no power!?

Using posts and info from various sources I got the car and got it running...

This is where im at now...
1987 TII
20K mile motor installed that had high idle problems from install. Car got parked 3 years. I bought it for $700.

I put in:
New plugs
fuel pump (walbro)
changed fluids
MMO in T-plug holes, and compression is good.

Fixed a big vac leak, clamp on stock TID was off. TID was apart 1/4 inch or so.

Idles at 1000....

Problems:
Throttle responce is almost a sec behind, it sorta lidles down a bit then catches. Almost a "bog" kind of action/sound.

Car pulls very light, almost no power. I ran the car down the street about 50yards and it was only half way through first gear. I hit maybe 25mph... In short it has no pull/power. The boost gauge(stock) got about half way to 40mmg, thats what 3lbs or so.

There is an exhaust leak some where near the cat.. Pretty sure it IS the cat...

White/Blue smoke, I think its from the MMO. I put about a half cup in each housing in the trailing plug holes and let it sit about 3-4 days. It has only been running for about 45min total run time now. So i hope its the mmo.. and not the turbo or oil seals. I did change the plugs again after burning off most of the mmo. It smoked really bad for about 15 min.. then I changed them.

When I push the brake petal the car idles down 200rpms or so then levels back to 1000. Sort of like my throttle responce problems symptoms.

The brakes go to the floor... I blead the master cylinder. Didnt help.

I live in Charlotte NC area, and need any help i can get.
Iv been searching and looking and I think I need help with my problems, I cant find the same things going on in any ones posts.

Thanks,
jared

Sweet project car man. I was there once. Take a look at these three intake rubber hoses;
1 Lower part of TID, to Turbo inlet
2 Turbo outlet to aluminum pipe
3 Aluminum pipe to BAC (5/8 diameter ofr so)

Each of these hoses should be soft and should not be cracked at all. The engine should idle smooth as a v6 buick. If it runs rough then check these 3 leak prone areas and spray some ether everywhere.

I also think you should let that thing run in for a while. Change the oils and bleed each brake caliper. My frist test drive was really slow too. You can try testing the brake boost for leaks by disconnecting it and aplying vacumm.

How many miles are on the frame? Theres a good chance your cats are clogged.

The first month or so of my car running was a lot of trial and error. Sensor adjustments and tuning things. Seemed like everything I do for tuning added more power to the engine. You'll get there.

Also keep in mind you may be running richer than stock now because of your fuel pump.

If the engine has been siting for three years than theres a good chance that in a few hundred miles it will be much more stable.

I agree with whats been said and also see if you can get the cat off & see how she breaths then?
...Also check the air filter? Maybe a mice nest in there?
Fuel filter? old crappy gas might have clogged it too... Runs some Techron Fuel injector cleaner through the system...
The gaskets around the Turbo also can be bad and you could be losing boost there as well...
Also I think if you haven't yet, pull off the TID and inspect for cracks, they are prone to doing that and that will cause weak power & boost as well...
Dang I can't wait for my next T2...I hope the guy I made an offer to last night takes it...
Good luck/skill! Wish me some too!

so what im gettigis that the lackof powerwillwork it self out for the most part?.... ill check the cats asap.

What would make the throttle responce so crappy... and the car drop idle when i push the brakes?

It broke a alt. belt today too looks like its rubbing the pully and it word down.
This belt was new.

its got a new air filter so thats not causing anything.

when i adjust the idle screw on the BAC it has no effect.

could be a bad/non-working BAC, incorrectly set TPS, fried circuit for the BAC in the ECU, or vac leaks, or other things.
