$35 spark plugs....

Alright, I got my T2 running finally, after spending 2 days tracking gremlins. Turns out that the fuel pump relay wiring had shorted out and blown some fuses, plus the ground on the pump was bad.

Anyway, back to the point. I went to my work (AutoZone) and had a co-worker give me some prices on tune-up parts. The only plugs the computer listed were $35 dollar Denso Iridiums (for both the leading and trailing side). What do you guys run for plugs and how much do they cost? I was considering just running the Iridiums, but $140 bucks for plugs is outragious.

Thanks.

^What he said, there should just be the standard NGK's. Still on the pricey side but not even close to 35 bucks a pop.

Well, this would probably explain the NGK thing. I forgot my store doesn't carry NGK plugs for automotive applications. Thanks for the slap up side the head guys. I'll just go to Napa and get my plugs.

If you wanted to run iridiums, the NGK REC7L for leadings (RX-8 plug) also works after you re-gap to .030 instead of the .048 that they come as.

Yeah the 7 sucks like that.... if you want spark plugs you have to order them off the internet, local shops never carry them here, or they carry the irridium ones. I usually just get mine from mazdatrix cause they are quick shipping to me, but their overpriced. I've always put NGK BUR6EQ an BUR8EQ in my N/A seems to run smoother in traffic with warmer plugs.

AutoZone here only had the Iridiums, everywhere else has NGK and Iridiums. I'm in statesville, nc. Of course around here you can find plugs that cost in the $40-$50 a piece range :-D

Not only does the local AZ want too much money for plugs, they don't know the difference between the top and lower plugs.

So I went to PB's and they were <$6 each and they new which went where!

If you want a cheap upgrade from the basic NGK plugs, you can get the platnums for a buck a piece more at www.sparkplugs.com . I think it was like 6.95 each for platnum.

Theres only 2 places around here that sell plugs that work on rx's. Checkers (8 bucks a pop) and the dealer, which wants 20 dollars each, plus shipping, plus a 10 day wait. Every time I buy spark plugs at checkers the people behind the counter go "wow, expensive plugs!"

That is one thing I don't like about Autozone. You don't have to know anything about cars to work there. I have a co-worker that is more of a hinderance to our store than she is a help, all cause she "thinks" she knows about cars.

When I got interviewed the person conducting it told me to name as many parts inside a typical pushrod V8. I told him to tell me when to stop and he was astounded, like it was the first time he had interviewed someone who knew what they were talking about.

The only advice I can give for shopping at AutoZone is find the people there that have a clue and only talk to them. Just ignore the idiots.

Thats funny. I call ever person behind the counter an idiot if they don't know about a rotary. I always get "thats odd, two different spark plugs?" Then they try to gap them for me.

So you expect every parts person to know about an engine that was only used in one model line? Come on, that is just rediculous. I have been working a counter for a year and I had knowledge of cars long before that, and I still learn something new every day.

How about this, instead of just writing everyone off as an idiot because they don't know rotaries, why don't you give a quick explanation and teach them. Spread the knowledge of why rotaries kick ***.
