For $12k, could a FC run more or less even with a stock S5 Corvette?

yeah give a 86-91 vette a 12k mod budget and our 12k modded turbo FC is toast.

It all depends on how the money is managed, and like it was said on another post, street driven or not, cause if the main focus is straight drags and cut off, I believe that 12k is plenty even for some modded vettes out there, not having to be the 12k on the vette, but the vette has more power to begin with. Now, loose the FC and throw the motor in a starlet or old datsun prep it right and it could even trouble most modded vetties out dur... correct me if I'm wrong in ways

The money is spent for the whole total package, and even the modded RX-7's performance couldn't be called a "total package." More like slapped together. The Corvette is built with a target performance in mind and the whole frame and everything works together towards that purpose, and then has fancy interior stuff and whatnot.

Modifying a sports car to perform better is "slapping it together"?
I can see your point if I was talking about modifying a minivan or something, but a FC is still a purpose designed sports car.
Also, even if something is "slapped together", if it's faster, and the purpose is to go around a track faster, isn't that better?

A C5 is nothing special.
Sure, it has decent power and lots of torque, but the advantage goes to the FC in terms of *WEIGHT*.
If any of you have been in a built FC, you know what it's potential is.
Although the original post did not explicitly state "STOCK" in terms of the C5, this is what I was assuming; to assume modded C5 is just plain ludacris!
Now, that last jab about "purpose built" and crap is pure bullshit.
Stock is STOCK.
Unless we're talking about a Viper GTS-R, stock street vehicles have compromises.
A 500hp FC is a monster.
Built right, we're talking power and acceleration on par with a current Porsche Turbo.
It doesn't take that much money to upgrade the suspension.
Upgrade suspension on the FC will run rings around a (stock) C5.
