kinda sounds like many of us would get an fd tho if we had the money... as much as I'd like to deny it, I probably would to....

1. Like most people here i love the style of sports cars that the 80s brought. My realistic dream car is a 2nd gen mr2 hardtop turbo. Which i have minus he turbo (pending swap sometime in 2009). My cousin had a porsche 944 that he was going to sell me for my first car but my parents decided against it, porsche parts are expensive. ive always loved the rx7. After a little more research i decided to sell off my celica GTS and pick up an rx7. I got a really great deal on a super fast, clean body, low mileage(32k with 2k on the motor), 87 turbo 2. I love the car. its a great looking sleeper, and it just fits me. much like my MR2 does. im keeping them both.
2. Money isnt too much of a problem. I couldve easily gotten my hands on an FD if i wanted too. But i actually passed up on an FD to buy my FC. It has way lower mileage than any FD ive seen around here and to be honest, the FD looks amazing...a little too amazing for my taste and age. im only 20 years old and im already religiously protective of my MR2 so owning an FD would be such a hassle for me. Trying to get parking in the best spot where i can see my car from the window of wherever im at, making sure to stay away from any elements and etc. i love the FC. after im fully content with it ill probably get an FD to compliment it.

I'm not going to lie... I was sort of forced in to a TII because my FB just couldn't handle the power the FC hooks up so much better!

For me it started out with a love affair with the first FD i saw on the road. I found out what that car was, and wanted one more then anything for that time. Then I saw an FC, and didnt realize at first it was another RX-7. It was cheaper, I liked the styling better, and its so much easier to work with, so I decided to change my affair again once I found out how much better the FC with me. I will not get rid of this car unless I have to, and turbo swap is on the way, as well as a paint job.

1. I had an '83, and always loved the FC. Saw a red FC with 50k miles on the side of the road for sale. Next day I bought it. (that was back in '97).

2. See my sig. Mazdaspeed 3. Torque is nice!

1. It was both for me. Good car for the price and I had -20 points on my license at the time and needed to get out of street (drag) racing so I got a car that was slower but more fun. Ended up tearing up back roads, learned about suspension tuning, chassis mods and driving. Then came to FL and got into turbos and boosted it. Can't wait to go full EMS and T4, great learning experience for me.

2. If I had unlimited funds I would probably own a different car but just because I've had this one for a while and like to try different platforms. Maybe an FD, a Z31, 240Z, E30 BMW, dunno really. Something that I can buy and build the **** out of.

Missed the 2nd part

I'd always have an FC, no matter what my budget was. I like cars that are built, rather than cars that you buy and keep stock. Instead of buying 1 Lambo, I'd buy and build up an FC and an FD, and put a down-payment on a house.
When you buy a supercar, you just buy it and that's it. There's no adventure, no personality, no bond with the car. Some people like that, but I'm pretty sure 90% of the people on car forums want to build up a car exactly how they want it. Built not bought FTW.

It was free. Cousin gave me an 88se with 158,000 miles on it. I had no idea what i was getting into. Figured i would just kinda waltz into this car, being very familiar with the na miata. Nope........ it consumed 12 miles per gallon and my soul.

I love the fc. I've owned them off and on(mostly on) since 1987. In 2005 I bought am FD but started missing the FC. Then I went crazy and found a low mileage 91 vert and a low mileage 88 AE. Bought them both within a month. So for the second question. I could get anything I want but choose the FC and FD. I give kudos to you younger guys that restore these cars to different levels. I enjoy reading your restoration threads(with pics). There's a lot of love for these cars and I'm proud to be part of it.

1. a) I wanted another RWD car. My first car was a '92 S13 with blown head gasket and piston rings, it overheated easily, smoked like a five-alarm fire, and it had frame rail rot and rust out the wazoo. I still flogged the crap out of it and somehow, it survived a year of my abuse. I've since owned a FWD (95 SAAB 900S) and AWD car (98 Subaru Impreza), and I still prefer RWD.
b) I wanted a car that was decent for motorsports, especially autocross and track days. The S13 was beyond saving. You can't do anything with a N/A SAAB. I could rallycross the Subaru, but it's my daily and I can't afford to be without it on the road for very long. Anything competative in autocross in my area (i.e. FD, Civic, Miata, AW11 MR2) is either rusty, rare, or expensive. I doubt I'll make it to the Nationals in my FC, but I could make something that is locally competative.
c) I wanted an easy project car, since I'm inexperienced with working on cars. There's a lot of online and aftermarket support for the FC.
d) It was cheap ($1300).
e) It's different. I'm different.

2. If I had a little more money ($4000-$8000), I would have bought an S5 turbo. If I had a lot more money, I would like to get a GD STi or Evo VIII/IX; whichever one I like to drive better.

I was young (somewhat at 20), and had around $7000 saved to find a car. But I didn't want a boring car! I was also looking for something sporty.

So less than $7k + fun + sporty =.... E-Bay (local!) '91 Rx-7 low miles for $3500

WIN!

The FC chose me. The 240's didn't want me. I had the op to get one several times but something told me not to or something came up. I dont regret not getting one since i see them almost as much as i do jdm'd out civic hatches and dc4 integras......

I'm glad they're aren't too many fc rx7's on the road (i've seen two just cruising, the rest show up at my house thanks to rx7club). The engine has less moving parts than the piston engines i'm used to. There are aftermarket parts galore where as i couldn't find **** for my last car. It's rwd, shoots fireballs (providing you have a straight exhaust), it's a hatchback (perfect for subs, bicycle and skateboard storage, plus i can load up alot of groceries back there.

My FC is a beater of a car right now but i dont think i'd get rid of it unless i had no choice. If i didn't get it, i wouldn't have met or chatted with alot of the good people rx7club exposed me to. I wanted to get out of the car game simply because i was sick of the bullshit. There's far less of it in the rotary world than anywhere else. You can say it was fate almost.

When I needed a car after my accident in high school, I found an FC for 500 bucks. Drove it up and down California several times, and all I had invested was 600 for tires and a tune-up. I had considered the 240, but they were all expensive and overpriced.

So I guess I have one cause it's cheap? I had 3, now I have 2!

1 because they are a real car. good from the start good till the end. they look great run great (most of the time) and have great potential.

2. if money wasnt a problem i would want to still have one i would probably build a real silvia or 350z BUT i would have to at least own an rx7 still theyre just too much fun to drive to not at least have one of them haha.

I was car less for 3 months after both mine and my wifes cars died. She got a new car and I hitched a ride with a co-worker. Another co-worker said he would let me get his RX-7 if he didn't care about me wrecking it. I told him I would be really careful with it and would take care of it. He took me to his garage after work one day and I saw it and fell in love at 1st sight. He said it wasn't for sale, but he knew my situation and said he would let me get it.

p.s. I never really knew what they looked like before he mentioned it at work and I googled it. After I saw it and it was a vert. I was like omg &^$%#.

1. its a more affordable car And has Super Sport Features and handling, just an All around Well Peformance car

2. money wasn't an issue, it would be a S8 FD with a 3 Rotor NA p-Port since money isn't an issue rebuilds of the P-Port wouldn't be an Issue =o)

got in an accident and i needed something. (project) to do so i picked one up for a grand, it was beat up but ran like a champ, had my summer fun with it, sold it, got something else, done that car up and loved it but yet regretted selling the RX cause i missed the rear wheel drive and uniqueness and so i got rid of the one car i did up and bought this one and cant wait to start playing with it couple more months than the mods start to come mmmmmm very very anxious cause now with this diff job i have i got some money to play with things YA

plus i like to have something that not many people have in my area which have been most my cars and it sucks cause right when i get something unique someone within a year gets something similar, but this time im ahead a lil bit on this one, the only other FC's around here dont run (my town, very few) xcept the one i see is all stock but still clean which i might try to buy that one or a very clean FB ????

and also want to prove older imports (FC's, etc) can be lot better and nicer than newer ones and shoouldnt be kicked to the side as much as they are. my next project after this might be a Corolla or an older nissan not the z but maybe a 500 a more boxy one, maybe a wagon or a japanease mini truck hmmmm

I agree with pretty much everyone here. Rotary, RWD, SEXY, awesome just all around. I think one of the best things about the FC is that we, the owners, have worked on it so much that we have a HUGE amount of knowledge so the customization is literally endless.

If I could afford any car? It'd still be an FC. If I was allowed only 2? An FD with it. I can't get enough of these cars. But as a family man, I'd probably need a van sooner or later... for my wife to drive the kids.

the midwest sucks for old imports.

i was between a '88 944 and a '89 GXL, both in the same condition with 90,000 miles
i decided the rx7 looked slightly better and was easier to maintain (replacing timing belts, that could fail and make my pistols meet my valves, i dont think so)

and the rx7 is rare in the chicago burbs, i know of 7 944 in my town alone, but only 1 FC (and i think it went out of state)

only regret was not buying one off this forum, i could have got one in better condition, but you live and learn

1.) I chose the FC, because I love perfectly balance RWD cars. Saw an Option Video back in the 90's that had this red fc driftin the mountain passes with the skylines and silvias, it was the only one, and was just so much sexier! thats when I truelly started to develope a passion for the FC.

1.b) Well I hate to say it, I love the FC with a fiery passion, but it isn't the best platform. So if money was no issue....

The 430 Scuderia Son!

2.) Now that I have my FC, I will try to hold on this car forever, make it my track car. And she'll be quick, and will take alot even for the newer cars to keep up. I mean, front-mid engine, 50/50 balance, lightweight, perfect driver position. Has loads of potential!

Thanks for readin!

1) It was there, well taken care of and cheap!

2) fell in love due to its uniqueness and wanted to do something different.

if i had the money, i would definitely be owning an FD right now... but they are a little played out, don't me wrong, i love the FD and all! Its just that everybody now a days forget what RX7 brought the rotary engine to be famous.
