tid ram air setup (56k go eat a sammich)

step 1: gather materials

you will need

cardboard
duct tape
sheetmetal/aluminum plate
grinder or jigsaw
spray paint
3"hole saw
3" piece of 3" exhaust pipe
flex pipe for intake- found at autozone
k&n filter
devcon epoxy
3/16" rivets and rivet gun
drill gun with assorted drill bits

note... i already had hacked a hole in my hood and installed the "naca" duct i picked up from ebay

1.
get some cardboard and make a template

2.
mock it up to make sure everything fits
check hood clearances

3.
transfer cardboard to sheetmetal

4.
cut out the panel and cut the 3"hole

5. epoxy the exhaust pipe to the panel

optional... when dry, paint everything color of your choice. i picked flat black cause i didnt like seeing white when i looked in my scoop

6.
install the panel. drill holes for rivets and insert rivets. install hose and filter. clamp everything together and you are done!

total time 2 hrs maybe? not including the 24hrs for the epoxy to cure.

Edit: There you go, looks like you have a good idea. I would try to fab something else like the stock air box to just have the incoming air go to a filter. Like this

[________] Just use a flat paper filter and have the incoming air go to it instead

of where ever it wants then have the tube under it and have like a 45 or a 90 degree bend to the sheet metal

Add some weather stripping to the top of your metal plate. It will help seal it against the hood and it will cover the metal so you dont cut yourself with it by accident when working in the engine bay.

Now, is this more effective than a cone filter in a cold air box, with a vented headlight cover? or just your alternative that you created, with similar performance?

Is the the exhaust piping you used galvanized or at least painted on the inside to prevent corrosion? It's probably not going to hurt anything, but I still wouldnt like the idea of oxidation entering my motor.

its galvanized pipe and im not too worried about rust. i actually used that piece on my far for 2 years straight off the turbo to the air filter and it looked new when it took it off.

as for the headlight vent cold air box... i dont know if you have seen one but there is a lot of crap that air has to go through before it ever gets to the filter. i dont know of any gains with this setup.. just boredom one afternoon and anything is better than filter right off the turbo.. plus the scoop looks pretty hard core i think and now it has precieved functionality
